An old RTS game named Rise & Fall Civilizations at War tried to use the same mechanic of being able to control a unit. In this game, it was the hero of each nation. As a kid, i remember being impress by that. I am very glad a new rts game will do this too !

Imagine this game COOP where one person plays FPS and the other plays the "commander". Add being able to send commands or markers to your coop partner in case mic isn't available, and it should be interesting to see what can happen.

that squad management system has been around at least since the first Blitzkrieg games, in a sense I'm disappointed to see it only being reused now, i can't remember any other game in all this time to have done that. those dynamic squads should go pretty well with the CoH style combat, if they'll truly take advantage of it, rather than just having it as a gimmick

It's similar to the way Homeworld squadrons work. Rather than through selection, you should be able to click a button to form a squad with the rats selected so you can afterwards choose them without fumbling with the selection box. This way you can have a tighter tactical experience and slowly open up to a grander strategic aspect.

I think the Men of War series (btw which is missing from your channel) and games built in this engine has similar squad features.

Looks really interesting. I'm glad the genre can still innovate in both gameplay, pace and the settings. This and the other RTSs you covered a while back in another video is a good sign for this genre. Thank you for the coverage.

Men of War Assault Squad is a Master Piece. The first Men of War had a an awsome Campaign, something missing from Assault Squad.

Love the concept and the gameplay. After the lackluster start of Iron Harvest, I'm started to crave something like it but better developed. Keep up the amazing content Zade. Been waiting for an amazing RTS Channel like yours!! Kudos!!

I want to see more about the vehicle combat. I hope they put a lot of effort into making vehicle units tactical and powerful when used right. Rear/side armor hit damage bonuses. Engine damage. Terrain playing a role in mobility, etc

ah yes the Rat RTS I've been waiting for. Scratch that off my bucket list.

This reminds me of a game called Battalion Wars on Wii. It kept it to 3rd person for controlling individual units though.

You really should give Men of War a go if the mechanics of Ratten Reich really appeal to you. It's prime eurojank but it's so unique that you can forgive it. I'm honestly glad another company is taking on the sort of tactical level RTS game where squads are dynamic and resources limited instead of fixed squads with infinite ammo.

As a big fan of the Men of War series, I am very very much looking forward to this one. I enjoyed CoH and Iron Harvest, but this I think will be a truly unique experience taking the best parts of each game. And yes I will echo the several other comments saying: these squad mechanics and "Direct Control" mode have been around for several games in the MoW series, and other games that spawned from it's engine, the most recent of which being Call to Arms (modern warfare with FPS mode) and Gates of Hell:Ostfront (WW2 improved on the CtA engine, standalone). You should definitely check those out, and Men of War 2 should be coming out very soon too!

would be awesome to play with friends. One is the commander controlling troups and giving orders and the others could be in 1st person going from one unit to the others leading your troups or something like that

The dynamic grouping /squad mechanic sounds great and innovative. I hope it works well with hot-keys.

The squad system seems to me like it was almost just ripped straight from men of war, which is in no way a complaint. Men of war has always been my second favorite rts after CoH, and I always love seeing new games take the best ideas from the classics and implement them themselves. Hoping that men of war 2 still had that squad system when it launches and that they haven't thrown it out for some new feature. Love taking four or five guys with a sniper rifle and lmgs/mmgs and completely cutting off entire streets or fields from infantry movement

What a weird concept...they basically replaced human heads with animals- these "rats" walk and act like humans and fight in human scale environment. Why not make the rats more animal like- slouched or on all four legs. And make 'em fight in garbage heap, sewers, dirty kitchen etc.

Men of War assault squad with mice in a diselpunk world that takes place in the first war.

Looks great, like Men of War with rats. I particularly like the character design for the cockroach faction. I suggest adding motion capture death animations - I think it would really add a sense of realism that ragdoll physics cannot convey. I'm sure it would be expensive, but it would make a big difference!

5:55 The unit selection and cover system are closer to Men of War than CoH. 6:22 Men of War does that... Well, technically Call to Arms but it's the same engine as Assault Squad 2 and same the devs as Men of War. Men of War just restricts you to third person instead of going first person. You can even control TANKS like that!

Call To Arms, a game made by the same people who made mowas (Digitalmindsoft), shares similar features such as fps mode and individual unit control and is an excellent game.

Battlefield 1942 main theme, that's all I could hear for the first minute or so. Memories...

men of war/call to arms (same franchise) where clearly the main inspiration for this game, ah and gates of hell has a third/first person mode too and ratten reich is made in russia if i remember corectly where men of war is extreamly popular (like in all of eastern europe). while the men of war franchise is ukranian seeing this pre alpha demo from a men of war veteran is not realy that much. the mission in the gameplay is preaty much the standard of a men of war mission, you get 8 soldiers with a few bolt action rifles and a handfull of grenades and your ment to take on a whole german military base full of tanks , anti tank guns , MG enplacments and companies of enemy infantry by using stealth ,tactic's , looting enemies and stealing enemy fire power like better rifles , smg's , helmets , tanks , artilery pices that need to be crewed by your soldiers to over come that task. and with a fully destructible enviroment and this has been since the first game in the series released in 2004 called soldiers heroes of WW2 to clear things up call to arms : gates of hell osttfront is the newest men of war game. it's still being updated and expanded with DLC's

I really hope they nix the first person mode in favor of making the RTS better. I love men of war but when you take complete control of a unit the games balance goes out the window and this goes triple for multiplayer. MoW would be 10 times the game that Company of Heros is if it wasn't for that, so here's hoping the devs for this dont make the same mistake.

I was hyped about this when this was first announced but honestly this isn’t exactly what I wanted. I think the aesthetic is great but I want something with grand scale and epic environmental destruction. This feels more like company of heroes and that’s cool but not what I want

I absolutely buzz with hopeful anticipation every time I see anything to do with this game. The FPS perspective got me nutting all over my TV screen🔥👌🏻

All we can do now it seems that.. We're going to rely on the Indie devs on their amazing games filled with individuality and uniqueness that is not that prominent in most of the Triple A game companies. Sure there are some great ones, but it is not as many as before when the E3 was just starting.

The game looks great and i'm gonna try it when it launches but i feel like the silly premise with the animals is completely lost with the RTS camera. Show just regular gameplay to someone and they would never tell it's not people. I guess it's good enough to draw people's attention on the steam page.

Is it really an RTS? Does it have economy and unit production? Also it looks like this game needs active pause. TTK is nuts, you blink and half your troops are dead.

This looks really cool; however, I hope they don't bite off more than they can chew with this. You mentioned folks comparing it to Men at War. I believe MaW did the aforementioned. You'll see countless comments of people saying, "Why aren't more people playing Men at War? It's such a great game!" Well, when you overcomplicate your game for the sake of being unique, you will limit your player base. Strategy games already aren't for everyone as they are significantly more difficult to master than any of the popular FPS games we know. Idk man, RTS games already have lots of micro; adding to that is simply over-engineering, IMO. It will hurt the game's longevity.
