The Mr. Hobby line chisels were my first proper scriber. Never got around in finding a proper tool for that adjustment grub screw, or whatever it was. Ended up just using force to place and removing the bits. The hook design is great and can really chew up plastic, leaving all 3 sides of your line channels clean. It is limited when it comes to corner details...hard to explain but it involves clearance issues and the angle of attack that only straight chisel scribers can only do. These days, I use them to clean up line work after using some Madworks chisels and/or when I need to scribe on soft plastic kits. Anyway, great review and thanks for sharing!

I've used these to scribe whole kits. They're harder to control than straight chisels and corners definitely need some care to look good, but they absolutely work pretty well if you're on a budget. You can get several widths for the price of just one or two BMC tools, which gives you a lot more choice for creating interesting details.

There is clear tape specifically designed to help keep your new panel lines straight. Also it seems like you would want either a better handle with a more intuitive blade swapping or just dedicated chisels. I have a bad habit of skipping entry level tools though so that's probably where my opinion is coming from.

Even though the packaging says 0.3 mm when I look at the other tips they look to be different sizes and are not the same thickness. Also I thought that pin on the handle was some sort of lock device but the tips just pop out with a little force and look to be held in with friction.

waterproof papers are the black sheets you will find at paint and auto stores. it is a silicon carbide wet/dry paper. it's best uses are for sanding clear coat and sharpening HSS/ tool steel. you can use it with water, soapy water, or oil.

You can find them pretty much anywhere you can find a good assortment of sandpaper, not just auto parts stores. Best place to buy is the big box stores. I wouldnt be surprised if Walmart carried it. The standard in North America is any black colored sandpaper is constructed for wet sanding.

It can scribe new lines as well as deepening lines. Just use a guide so it doesn’t jump around. Hooks are better than regular chisels because they remove material faster.

While I appreciate the review, my experience with directional (hooked) blades is they easily skip around. I amhappy with my Gunprimer Grida (omnidirectional and uses a clutch mechanical pencil body), albeit somewhat more expensive and lacking widespread distro.

I was going to try scribing for the first time and was thinking of getting the Grida. Is it good for creating new lines or just deepening existing lines?

@@paktahn Curious , do you have the scriber ? I noticed that the scriber blade has a flat side which tells me that the a set screw (Allen screw) is used to hold it in place . Roll pins usually go through a hole. Didn't see a hole on the blade .

How are you supposed to change the bits?! I am a bit pissed off that there aren't even instructions on how to do it. EDIT: the first or second comment had the answer, its just held by friction you only need to pull with a bit of force and the chisel comes out of the grip

what size would be good for lines in 1/100 scale then? im about to start working on my first mastergrade but sanding down detail really scares me
@timwelch175
@timwelch175 3 жыл бұрын
Usually .2 or .3. I found it easier to just get another brand in a variety pack. You can then just match the line you need to rescribe to the chisel or pick your poison to scribe your own.

Yes 0.3 is good because it’s kinda right down the middle, good for both 1/144 and 1/100

This review was horrible lol. Those aren't "spare blades" they are different sizes. I honestly came here looking for the answer as to what that hole is actually for near the tip. The reason I want to know is that after a few switches of blade sizes, the metal chisel easily pulls out now while using it. If anyone actually has an answer to this please inform us. This tool works great except that it easily slips out of the handle now. Whatever that hole is for, it doesn't include anything to put in it if it is an adjustment.
