The city of Zakynthos is located at the foot of the Bochali hill and is the capital of the island. Zakynthos has the largest port in the east of the Greek island of the same name in the Ionian Sea. In 2001, 16,810 inhabitants lived here. The highest altitude here is on Skopos hill - 492 m. On August 12, 1953, the city was destroyed by a strong earthquake. 6 km south of the city is the international airport.
