Despite how tough Kratos is with Atreus you can see the regret in Kratos' eyes when atreus pushes on Kratos' wound and out of instinct Kratos shoves him away, the way he drops his voice as he wants to apologise because he didn't mean to hurt his son is very unnoticeable at first but is fantastic once you realise. “You will Honor your mother and abandon this path you have chosen” ....”It is not too late” Hearing his voice break a little at the last line really shows how terrified he is of thinking that the only thing he passed on to his son is his (Kratos) unstable rage and attitude towards other living beings...like he lost his soul without making a deal with a god....Kratos sees it’s his influence that is really affecting his son and how he sees himself as superior b/c of a title
@TheArsenalgunner283 жыл бұрын
Kratos didn’t see himself as superior because he was a god, nor did he lack compassion for living beings. It’s because of his love for his family that his vengeance was unleashed upon the gods. He hates Zeus for his lies about his brother and what he has done as well as how he treated mortals. Kratos hates gods yes, he hasn’t changed since the last game in that regard and he would probably still kill Zeus...but he has control over his anger now. When he destroyed all the gods of Greece he no longer had anything to hate and so his endless anger and rage went to the only place it had left to go, upon himself. When you hate yourself, you are crueller on your actions and self reflective. And so kratos learned from his mistakes and decided to live in exile and see out the rest of his days alone and live with the pain of his guilt and destructive nature...until he meets Faye, who taught him to love again and gave him a reason to live. The reason Kratos fears telling Artreus the truth is that he fears he will lose him, he fears judgement from his own son. He wants him to live as a mortal, as Kratos remembers his happiest memories when he once believed himself to be mortal. He wants his son to live a life that he never had. He didn’t lie to artreus because he was afraid he’d take the title of ‘being a god’ as being superior because that’s not what kratos did himself. He did it to try and protect him. He says it himself, as a god ‘you marked, you are a target’.
@carlycrays28312 жыл бұрын
@@TheArsenalgunner28 Even if Kratos didn't mean for Atreus to become an arrogant little brat, he did basically lie about his past. He did allow Atreus to believe in something that wasn't the truth because it was easier than explaining to him what happened. And really, Atreus only knows what happened because he saw that vision of Kratos killing Zeus. That wasn't by Kratos's own choice. And this goes back to a bit of who Kratos was in the first games. He didn't want to deal with his grief and negative emotions so he turned to murdering the people he believed caused it all.
@satan4o2 жыл бұрын
@@TheArsenalgunner28 Oh get real. Kratos was happily slaughtering people in the name of Ares. He only got upset when he realized the woman and child he slew were his wife and daughter. @@Gamfluent His point was the commenter was trying to defend Kratos by saying "he was never like that!" but he was. Kratos used to be ruthless and absolutely did see himself as superior, why else was he okay with slaughtering hordes of people FILLED with wife and daughters? Even after his family's death, he (literally) stepped on innocent people to get ahead. He absolutely is better than that in the later games, but to deny his origins and try to say Atreus is just uniquely a brat disrespects the character development he's gone through and Kratos' own introspections. He sees godhood as a disease with rage as a side effect, which absolutely does not exclude himself.

What I love about the dynamic between Atreus and Kratos the most throughout this game is that exactly after Atreus messes up big time, obviously Kratos is angry and disappointed, but he doesn't resent Atreus or go all 'old kratos' on him. He understands and warns Atreus of the path he's gone down, and its that sentiment that forces Atreus to reconsider his actions.
@squashmallow2006 Жыл бұрын
Yep. Later on, when you're on the boat, if you go near Baldur's dead dragon, Atreus apologizes and admits he screwed up badly. And Kratos replies, "You did. But... you are my son..." Joy of parenting, amirite? Your kids can be little jerks. But they're still your little jerks at the end of the day.

"you, boy, are not yourself." People seem to forget this, but this is Kratos's first scolding towards the insane Atreus. It's clear that, for all Kratos's displeasure with his son's childish exuberance, he still sees Atreus as his son and knows how Atreus is the heart of the two. Kratos needs Atreus's good nature more than he likes to admit because the child brings the best of all situations. And just seeing Atreus becoming a bratty piece of garbage hurts him a lot, and the scolding is the breaking point of Kratos's tolerance. And for certain, Kratos's scolding is VERY effective and efficient. No long-winded speeches or Aesops. Just a hard calling-out and that's it. Afterward, Atreus is relatively quick to be back to his good-natured self.

The most respectable thing is that even when he is angry at Atreus, he doesn't resort to violence against his son. He is a true father.
