I liked zarina wahab when I was a teenager. She acted in a couple of nice movies with nice songs-Chitchor and Gharaonda. When we had just moved to vasant vihar in delhi, from chennai the chitchor songs played on the radio and were popular, and we liked them. I saw the movie later and liked that as well. She paired well with Amol, who I also liked. She acted well, looked like the girl next door-the average middle class girl, and she was slim and had a nice figure.That was very long ago but she appears to have maintained it. Years later my brother would sometimes say to my sister-'yeh jeena bhi kya jeena hai sister'. I think it was a zarina wahab line from chitchor, as I remember. Gharonda songs played on the radio around 1978. I think the india-australia cricket series in australia was on, or thats how I remember it.Gharaonda was a nice movie with good acting as well and zarina did a nice job. Meena Kumari looked stunning in Baiju Bawra. Waheeda of course as well in a few movies-guru dutt and dev anand movies.Madhubala was very pretty but not in the same level acting wise. Zarina comes across as a nice and intelligent person though dev anand is not high on my list of favorites-although many nice songs were picturized on him.I liked Balraj Sahni.

I liked balraj sahni in 'garam hawa',which was a good movie. He did a decent job in 'ek phool do mali' as well,as I remember.

Zareena Wahab worked with Rajesh Khanna in "Adhikaar"(1986) in a small role with negative shades. (The main lady was Tina Munim.) I expected Anmol to have asked her working experience with Rajesh Khanna.

I liked Waheeda in 'the guide' for several reasons.She was stunningly pretty and could act and dance well. Also her role reflects that of a woman whose husband is conservative even today in society. In the movie rosie marries marco purely for security. He is a much older man, and marco and rosie have nothing in common. Marco represses rosie and does not let her pursue her passion in life, dancing(conservative spouses oppose women when they want to act in movies and dramas as well in real life). Rosie and Marco quarrel all the time and she catches Marco having an affair. She taunts him by dancing, and he gets violent and slaps her.He is a misogynist and says having an affair is a man's prerogative. She is bold and leaves him. Then she is ostracized for living with guide Raju who gets attracted to her and becomes her manager but she spurns his advances, never being able to shake off being marco's ex-wife. Raju takes over her life as well, preventing Marco and her from reuniting. Marco and Rosie are a very typical indian couple from the 1960s and even today in many families. Dev Anand did not act well.Waheeda did(she was stunning), and the songs were nice. The execution was not good but the songs were great,and it was a good story line overall.

ishq ishq ishq failed badly as I remember. r d burman and kishore kumar's 'mujko agar ijazat ho' was a nice song. the latter was very talented. he acted in comedies in the 1950s and 60s and sang very well, both.

In the 1960s, around the time 'the guide' was running, I could hear a man scream at his wife from the street when walking by their house.I was about 5. We lived in rourkela. I heard in later years that she was murdered and the case ended up in court.The man was the most likely suspect, but I also heard that he was acquitted.

In the english version of 'the guide' waheeda looks slim. But in the hindi version she has several layers of fat. It may have been camera work.Western audiences liked slim women, while indian audiences viewed slim women as starved and preferred the latter. It is not a topic that is talked about at all.The interviewers ask the same stupid questions time and again.
