@@UnitedStatesOfGuns If you come to Serbia you should visit the Zastava museum next to the factory in Kragujevac, I've heard it's great, packed with historic firearms. (although the building itself looks like it was repeatedly bombed and never repaired).

@@alexdelarge1074 Hi Alex, Zastava factory was destroyed first in WW1, continued working in 2 months, destroyed to the ground in WW2, immidiatelly after the war started production and finally bombed to the ground by US in 99' and again started working after several months...tough/hard and resilient as the nation itself i guess...

Zastava does make pretty good firearms. I've had a few over the years myself. Most are quite accurate. One of my favorite 22lr sporting rifles is a MP22 in 22LR. A hand picked example with very nice wood, beautiful blue, machinework and great cut checkering. Superbly accurate with a tight chamber. Firing pins are very fragile though.... I'd have to say the downside with Zastava is the fit/finish quality varies allot. One batch of firearms is superb, the next...Not so much..... One day I'd like to visit Kragujevac...My wife is Romanian and not an excessive drive from there.

I own two Zastava m70 rifles. One was labeled as Remington 798 (.270 cal). The other I bought from cabelas and it was dirt cheap in 2017 and was brand new for only $275.... the second m70 was just labeled as Zastava only. Both of my Zastava rifles shoot extremely well and have never had any malfunctions. I am truly a mauser control feed fan. I would trust a mauser over any other action. I plan to pass on these two rifles to my kids one day.

My very first firearm purchase, back when I was as green as grass, was an Interarms Mark X in .270. It was second (or third) hand and came with a peep sight which I replaced with an inexpensive 3-9 power scope. (I still have the peep sight.) I knew it had a Yugoslavian Mauser action but now I know it was made by Zastava. I still have it and it won't be for sale in my lifetime.

During WWII the Germans brought it machines from Mauser Oberndorf factory to Zastava Kragujevac(Central Serbia) and started producton of K98 Mauser to suply their own troops. In this days you can also find on market, barely used very high quality K98 Mauser system 8x57 caliber made by Crvena Zastava Kragujevac rifles(marked "Mauser Oberndorf"), produced in 1970s and 1980s, price about 250 euros. "Crvena Zastava" translated to English means "Red Flag", Kragujevac is town where factory is planted. There is also roduced the M24 Mauser system rifle in cooperation with "Fabrique Natipnale" from Herstal Belgium, marked "FN" logo at the reciever top, Sorry about my English, hope you can understand...Vladimir

That is such a neat rifle and that Mannlicher stock is really a nice touch. It is such a shame to hear about the decline of affordable controlled round feed actions, but it isn't something that surprises me. Honestly, it reminds me of how the pre-64 Model 70 ended because it just wasn't able to be made profitably at the price the average American hunter or gun owner was willing to pay. This is unfortunately the same sad story that happened to the Winchester Model 9422 and to numerous other great firearms. As to your mentioning of people pulling barrels off of factory guns due to them being supposedly inaccurate it really doesn't surprise me. People get funny notions about things from their friends, relatives, internet forums, etc., and I think that a lot of this accuracy business comes from that. Honestly, it amazes me how many people expect sub-moa groups from hunting rifles (unless it is guaranteed by the manufacturer). As to what you mentioned about people claiming a gun is inaccurate without ever shooting it just makes my head spin. The reality is that it isn't fancy barrels, scopes, stocks, actions, triggers, firearm makes or models, accessories, and ammo that make for an accurate rifleman, but time spent shooting.

A lot of Americans seem to think that guns made in the USA are the best. This is definitely not true. Sure we have some fantastic rifles being made here, particularly the Winchester 70s, but ther eare sure some awful ones being made here -- think "budget rifles".. Of course they are priced accordingly. Probably the best quality guns are being made in Europe, but they sure are expensive !

Sadly you are mistaken. The M70 is no longer made in the U.S. They are made in Portugal. The last M70's made in New Haven were as good as they ever were and better in some ways, at least the standard models. They shot very accurate and had the improved pre-64 style action.

Well as i see it, the genesis of american gunsmithing or weapon makers are same as european, sometimes Europe has the edge sometimes US, also as i see it America is more into high-tech weapons then small fire-arms,also american guns/rifles tend to be expensive, also not cheap ammo and not easy maintnance...also its hard to compare with whole Europe cos Eastern european gun making is a bit different to western...Anyway great comment from you and regards from Serbia Stronk :)

Great review. The triggers on the Zastava are fully adjustable also. Many a custom 9.3x62 or Magnum rifle began with the use of a Zastava rifle or even the action. Zastava have had a resurgence down here in Australia over the past ten years with them being affordable and also with the option of being able to purchase the action alone. You are correct in that CZ has discontinued with the Mauser action (with the exception of the .223/7.62x39). Thanks for sharing!

I have an older Interarms in 30-06 that my father won in a shooting match decades ago when they first started offering them here in the U.S. for sale. It is one of the most accurate rifles that I own and I own a lot of rifles. I wish I had one like you have in .270. I think the .270 is one of the most underrated cartridges of all. It has all of the velocity that you need and it can shoot a pretty heavy bullet if you need to bring down larger game. I think the .270 is more versatile than the 7mm mag.

My only exposure to the brand is with their Model CZ99 .22 rifles. I have a couple of them and find them to be excellent rifles. They have machined steel trigger guards and magazine wells, highly polished barrels, the triggers can be adjusted to be quite good. The stocks let them down though, the finish used is muddy. That is not a big deal, I've stripped the finish and redone them with tung oil and gotten good results. The do have a full stock version that is catalogued but not sold in the US, a pity as I find the style of it superior to that of the CZ full stock. CZ stocks have that droopy butt and employ a plastic nose cap, bent sheet steel trigger guard and plastic magazine wells. Zastava rifles deliver very good value for the price.

Mine is chambered in .308 Winchester with a 20” barrel. There is a block spacer in the internal box magazine to accommodate the short action requirements of the .308 cartridge. First, I absolutely love your channel. Second, I share your love of "real" guns. I haven't been shooting since the mid-70's when I owned a Parker Hale Mauser/270 and a Rem 700BDL/25.06. I just picked up a Mark X in .270 that looks like it may have shot 20 rounds in the past years. The was only a light scuff on the magazine follower to show it was ever fired! The gun is truly a mint, case queen. Even the white line spacers are still pure white. What a great rifle! The quality of the rifle and smoothness of the action are just like I remember my old rifles having. After looking at the plastic stocked, bead blasted new rifles with their gritty feeling actions, I really appreciate this "real" rifle. It is a Mannlicher stock away from being the perfect rifle ... Keep your excellent and informative content coming!

Gorgeous looking full stock rifle. I love the looks of a full stock rifle I've had a couple I had an interarms mark x in 270 and a Ruger number 1 RSI international in 243. My biggest issue is you really got to be careful with them especially if you carry one hunting they're easy to scratch all that wood hanging out there. Still love them though. But to me that's what a rifle is it's a tool I'm going to take it hunting and not cry over a small scratch it does hurt when you do it though.

Hi USOG, im from Serbia so i have a need to congratulate you on this review on the gun itself but also mentioning serbian people and our great history which is pretty unknown in the US, cos this is military/weapons channel people here will appreciate to know that Serbia fought against Roman Empire and won, twice, fought against Ottoman Empire more then any empire/state starting with famous Battle on Kosovo where we stopped them invading Europe(we had over 40 wars/uprisings with the turks, and finnaly won and expelled them from all the Balkans),then Serbs fought against two German Empire,Tsaric and Nazi in ww1 and ww2,in ww1 we suffered the most of any nation, around 24/25% of total population, its like US loosing 80+ million(at the start of war we had around 4.5M ppl and we lost over 1M,crazy but we won in both wars) how big was our sacrifice, how bravely we fought, you can see that through all the medals, recognitions from all the allies to our Generals but for american people most interesting would be that Serbian Flag was lifted on White House by President Wilson and its only foreign flag tht was lifted on WH ever in history, how bad is today american politics you can see from today relations between us,we got bombed and in war with each other cos US supported muslims and give them our/serbian most holy place Kosovo, also biggest ever rescue mission in US history was in WW2 when Serbian Royal Army rescued 500 american pilots, famous Halyard Mission (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z9tzjNh-2MWsqp8.html ) So to finish this, we fought Roman E. twice, both German Empires, Ottoman Empire, destroyed Austro-Hungary Empire in WW1 and finally only white nation that fought against USA,i will not mention all wars in the Balkans through history, with some we had 5,6 wars, in Europe we are considered most "craziest" nation lol and considered as most warrior nation till this day...We are now trying to reset our relations with US especially cos President Trump is on power and we have good relations with republicans in general...Sorry for this novel of the comment but i felt a need to say this, regards to this channel and to american people especially for AWAKE ones...Support from Serbia

This is an excellent rifle! I have one like it but with the double set trigger, the wood finish is not as glossy and checkering is different, a skip line pattern. You will notice that the right side rear receiver ring is drilled and tapped for mounting a peep sight. These rifles have most of the features of custom Mauser hunting rifles at a fraction the cost. Mine came with a Leupold 3-9 scope on Redfield rings for $750, a used but very good condition rifle. A no excuses rifle that is also good to look at. Zastava has an excellent .22 with many of the same features as this rifle, there is a full stock version I would like to have that puts the CZ full stock rifles to shame, no plastic parts, no stamped sheet metal.

I have a Zastava .30-06 that was imported by Charles Daly. I bought it new in 2005. The hang tag showed that the price had been reduced from $450 to $350 to $250, probably because I was the first customer to realize that it was the same action and manufacturer that used to build the Mark X for Interarms. Mine came with a very nicely shaped Butler Creek synthetic stock that is slim and has a cheekpiece but no Monte Carlo. The floor plate fits tightly to the bottom of the magazine, with no unsightly gap between the magazine and floor plate. That unsightly gap is present on Remington 700s, Ruger 77s, and Winchester 70s. My Zastava can shoot 1" groups at 100 yards with factory ammo. I would prefer that it had a bolt mounted 3 position safety instead of the simple sliding safety, which is like the one shown in the video. After market 3 position safeties are available. Not long after I bought my Zastava, Remington began importing them for awhile, but they had them built with oversized laminated stocks, and the wood to metal fit was really bad.

I had one of these in .270 back a lot of years ago !!! It was not well fitted to the stock as it was touching the barrel in a few places, so I took a lumber crayon wrapped with sandpaper to it to fully float the barrel. It became a 1 holer at 100, but I had to shoot so many rounds out of it to keep my proficiency up that I eventually "fell" into the .308, and I sold it to my boss's boss's boss at what you may call a "boss discount". Not a lot of bargaining power for me there, I can tell you. Three months later, after his first range day, he came to me raving positive about it. He had bought it for his son because he figured it was "good enough", but that he was going to keep it and give his son his Winchester. "Why in the hell did you sell it ?" was his incredulous question to me. I explained that it took too much shooting practice for me to maintain 5/5 shots on a 9" paper plate, offhand at a 100, which I could easily do with my .308. He looked at me, turned slightly to the side, shook his head up and down, and said "okay". Some months later he highly recommended me for a sizable promotion in a different department, which I took. More than fair trade in respect and value.

The full stock rifles are always eye catching. This particular rifle has a great look to be sure and it's in a great caliber. There are so many great European rifle makers that you can find them for fairly inexpensive prices and they're all usually very accurate. My wife has a Steyr that's a complete tack driver. Nice rifle and story. PS - Didn't see anything that jumped out at me yesterday at the show. It must have been Steyr day as I saw 50 to 60 of them in many different models, a few were the top end jaw-droppers that have been pampered... I even saw a real H&H SxS in the original case. There was a notice in the case that stated, "Holland & Holland - If you have to ask about the price, you should keep looking at the next table!" I chuckled and moved on. Clearly, that was one of the most humorous price tags I've seen lately.

I have that exact rifle - .270 with the Mannlicher stock, Interarms Mark X - manufactured in May of 1977. I have been looking for information on the rifle for years with very limited success, so I can't thank you enough for the education you've provided on the subject. Mine is in pristine condition for the most part, although it does have some light impressions on the left side of the stock from other bolt knobs in the safe, and the front sight is missing the shroud. Otherwise, the rifle is beautiful. I removed the scope from the rifle and plan to work with the irons for fun due to the fact that I also have a pre-64 Model 70 .270 with a scope. In previous research, I found something that stated that the rifle was known not only as the "Mark X," but was also labeled as a "Marquis," although the word "Marquis" is not stamped on the rifle itself. As I understood it, the "Marquis" moniker was related to it's "grade" of fit, finish, quality, etc. I am not sure where I read that or if it's even accurate, but would like to know. At any rate, I thank you once again for the video. I am quite tickled to find that there actually is another (Zastava) Interarms Mark X .270 Mannlicher out there exactly like mine! By the way, mine has the fore and aft swivel studs, as well. God Bless you, sir!

What a lovely looking piece! I have to say I'm not currently in the need of a deer rifle (I'm a .303 British fan) but if I were in the market I mean how can you go wrong with a mauser chambered in .270 for deer? I wouldn't hesitate using a rifle like that not just for Whitetail but for Mule Deer, Elk and even Moose. In fact I've heard mountain guides proclaim their fondness of the .270 for sheep, and that is a situation usually where accuracy counts. I know I'm a couple years late to the party per this video, but it takes me a while to go through all the back catalog's of the channels I find interesting, however this channel is consistently near the top!!

One my friends has a Whitworth marked Interarms Mark X chambered in .308. The rifle was accurate enough. My issue was with the rifle feeding since the rounds would slide foward in the magazine under recoil. Update!!!! This exact weapon in stützen stock, in 7x64, I saw in Belgrade at the Tito museum in September’22. ( his favorite hunting rifle) And in another showcase I saw a FN Herstal BAR given to Tito by foreign dignitaries as present.

Fantastic Wouter - the full stock in 7x64 is very hard to find - actually they are all hard to find. I hope our good friends in Serbia manufacture more. Thanks for the note and all the best.

I had that very same gun. Back in the day I was young broke and had to trade one to get one. I got a six pointer with it and traded it to my first M-1.

Starting in July 2019 Zastava will be supplying these fine rifles again under their own name (finally)! No more relying on third party importers. Several different models will be available. The website name is Zastava Arms USA and you can see the entire line. It is about time because NO ONE offers a rifle like this anymore for a very fair price, especially since CZ decided we don't need the 550 standard action anymore. This is an all steel rifle action. They are a little rough out of the box but they smooth up quickly and are dependable as hell.

Jaeger! Thank you! I'm going to order. These are such great rifles. Bravo to Serbia for not giving up the ghost and continuing to build rifles the way they should be. I can't believe the things people are reporting about the plastic guns...they simply don't last.

I'm looking at one of these in .270 at a local shop. Double set trigger, butter knife bolt handle, skip line checkering, a nice scope. $700, there might be room in the price, it's been there a few months. I can't think of a reason other than it's pretty to get it. Another thing in it's favor is it doesn't have the white line spacers. It would look even better with an oil finish. Did think of a reason to get it, I don't have a high powered scoped rifle. Decision made!

Perfect reasoning. I use the much admired philosophy of the mountain climbers - which includes mythical meaning and solemn acceptance. "Why are you buying another gun?" "Because it is there." : )

@@UnitedStatesOfGuns The one I'm looking at is an International, also in .270. I think I'll get it Tuesday when the shop is next open.

@@UnitedStatesOfGuns I did get the rifle. It was tagged as a CZ but is in fact a Zastava. Still, a beautiful rifle, 20 inch barrel, that butterknife bolt handle that gives it the look of a Mannlicher Schoenauer, and an older Leupold Vari X III 2.5-8 scope. The scope doesn't get much love on the forums but seems quite nice to me. The wood is a nice straight grain, only a couple of small marks, the steel is all virtually perfect. It does have the cross bolt in the stock for recoil re-enforcement. Like most everything I get it is primarily a collector thing, but I enjoy things like this, so very well made. So thank-you again for featuring your Zastava, you helped me make my decision.

I always said these were excellent rifles and excellent value for money. Hopefully the pressures of modern manufacturing economics do not mean they are cheapened or reduced in quality. Nice hunting rifle, and i would think it was a rifle that would last a lifetime.

You were right. I see no finish or fit issues and as far as a "buy and hunt" rifle that is totally reliable and complete right from the box - except a scope - this is it.

Mike, I am glad You enjoyed Your hunting trip. I went this morning and was blessed with a young 8 point buck. Today was a good day, it was My 46th birthday. I have a question about the Zastava rifles. Does the Zastava have an intermediate length reciever like the earlier Yougoslavian 24/47, and M48 rifles from just after WW2 ? God Bless You, and You're Family.
