seeing my culture be so beautifully incorporated in a mainstream media artist's discography like it is on tightrope is so meaningful, i can't even put it into words. from the second the song starts to play, you can immediately hear its south asian influences and it just makes me feel so proud. being from pakistan and living in the west isn't exactly the easiest thing, but being able to see who and what zayn represents makes that first gen dysphoria and general absence of belonging and certainty just a little more bearable. plus there's the added benefit of being able to, on some level, relate to zayn mf malik and say, "yeah, i get it."
