Zaytoven is an Atlanta based (originally from California) music producer who needs no introduction. I've been watching his cook up videos for years. Trying to figure out how he destroys every MPC beat. The answer is simple. Practice makes perfect!!

And there's an entirely different world that many don't even know exists. Don't get me wrong, dudes like Zaytoven, Ave, Metro are nice with the MPC, but the truth is the way they (and most MPC users) use their MPC doesn't quite do the MPC any justice. They use it pretty much the same way they use FL, Ableton, Logic, etc. They make a melody (or chop a sample) add drums, add a bassline, arrange it and maaaaaybe add a few more sounds to make it a full beat. But trust me when I tell you, this is NOT using the MPC at its full capacity. If you're reading this and saying, "Dude, what the hell are you talking about?" Go type in LAX the Monk, and Beats N Riffs in youtube search. You will never use the MPC the same way again.

Zaytoven is definitely a GOAT. As a musician, he's inspired me to try implementing guitar into Trap and more modern Hip Hop styled beats. It feels like everybody is either using a MIDI controller or mouse to make beats these days. It's nothing wrong with it, i have a Push 2 that i LOVE using, but most Hip Hop music lacks true instrumentation. I think Zay bridges the gap between Prince, Isaac Hayes, Rick James, Parliament-Funkadelic and Shawty Redd, DJ Toomp, Lex Luger etc as far as instrumentation on modern beats.

And as far as the MPC goes you’re right nothing is overnight, but one thing i do know is what you do the most in life is what you do best, I actually don’t have a favorite MPC i’m a late bloomer on production but i DJ and understand different Drum techniques i can play drums and have natural swing rhythm i don’t have to quantize unless I want too, so the transition was not like the average person trying to learn the MPC from that aspect, if you’re one of those guys that can really sample and sequence you’re there everything else is icing on the cake. One of the first cats i saw in person making beats at his house back in the 90s was DJ Pen One he has credits on all Xzibit earlier albums he also made a beat for Dr. Dre’s Chronic 2001 album a song called Bitch Niggaz and he taught Alchemist how to make beats but he used a SP1200 not a MPC I wish he kept it going but somewhere down the line things went wrong he would of been a big time producer today in 2023 but he still has production credits that should be a Goal for any real producer.

Maschine mk3 has better integration with fl studio, imo. Not to mention cheaper. Especially, if you are into rolls. I've owned the One and upgraded to the X at a killer deal and lost it in lightening storm and have the Live 2 now. I never found the mpc daw that intuitive, but cooking up in the hardware is stupid fast. Transferring midi or audio files is too tedious, rather than dragging and dropping with Maschine, which now rivals the mpc in speed, but with all the power of fl studio.
