Hes pretty much to saying simple is better at the end...The 5 min beats is usually the ones he puts the groove to so the artist can flow nicely with head room i get it...

That's not what he was saying at all. He was basically saying as a producer don't put all your hopes into the beat you spent a lot of time on, because an artist doesn't know or care at times. You can also spend so much time on a beat, that you end up with a small selection to pick from, or sometimes people ear fatigue. There are times for both. There's no safe way.

He makes some good points in this video. Remember to keep the beat simple and don't be afraid to give out a beat for free. Sometimes I keep wanting to add and add to a beat and then have to tell myself to stop, lol.

For the price of FL signature edition you can get MPC studio black with the MPC software. For 400 more you can get the MPC ONE which is standalone ($699). Akai has now made their MPC line way more accessible to more people. It's also very intuitive if you're coming from other DAWs. In my opinion every hip hop producer/beatmaker/or whatever you wanna call it needs to experience what it's like to make a beat on an MPC. I would suggest going for a standalone unit as it opens up way more possibilities with all it's connectivity. I think we're going to see a trend shift back to hardware. I just got my first MPC 2 weeks ago and I must say it was the best investment I ever made.

If your sending beats free, how do you guarantee you get payed on the back end ie Royaltys? You make sure you both sighn somthing before handing over the beat? What's stopping the rapper just running off with your beats with no intention of giving you anything?
