You have revolutionized the mind numbing, computationally intensive nightmare that is booleaning high-poly meshes for 3d printing. Best tutorial ever. I also found this was quite useful with the subtoolMaster plugin since I can model in whatever random program I want and then import all the meshes in at once and have them line up where they should be.

This is a custom interface. You should probably say where the live boolean button is situated in the menu.

I tried this with 8 subtools above the mesh I wanted the boolean on and the boolean object to subtract. It did exactly what you said but ended up merging all of the above subtools into one. The work around is to just export the boolean mesh, then import it back onto an appended object in the original file. Just in case a noob is scratching their head. Thanks for the info and vid. Since nobody mentions, I will. In the default ZBrush UI, the Live Boolean switch is readily accessed to the left of the Edit mode button. (Right after "Home page" "Lightbox")

this is so confusing. it should change once you click on Make Boolean Mesh. sometimes, people that build the software want to complicate something that should be simple.

helpful, thought I wish it didn't have to make a new tool

Where IS "Live Boolean"? You just have it on your work area, but I can only find a smaller Boolean button in my subtool palette with a grayed-out button below that which says "Make Boolean Mesh". Doh! Ignore my last question. It's just way too early in the morning for me and I haven't had my coffee, yet. I found it RIGHT where it is on your screen as well. Sleepy me. I'm going to be ok. I'm going to be ok. I'm going to be ok. :-) I am following you all the way up to the point where I have created the live boolean and it creates a nice subtool that is exactly what I want, but, it's now in its own subtool layer and when you switch back to or put your new boolean into the original subtool layers, I don't see WHERE or HOW you're doing that. So, what I'm saying is that now I HAVE a nice booleaned subtool, it's all by itself and I don't know how to insert it into the original subtool palette. I think I might have to find another tutorial with someone who explains it in a way that I understand. But, at least you got me up to the point where I can create a boolean. Hahaha! Thank you for that, at least. Definitely a big "Thumbs-Up!" from me.

After i "make boolean mesh" the generated subtool does not have any changes from the boolean.. so frustrating what am i doing wrong..
