People know the name. They know Marshall Faulk was a great player. They know he's a Hall of Famer. They just, for the most part, don't understand HOW GREAT of a football player this man was. Unless you came up watching the game during his era - you just don't know. There were some GREAT backs in his era. But if I had to build a team in that era, starting with the RB position - gimme Marshall Faulk over everybody playing RB at the time.

I'm from New Orleans...this guy is the only player I've ever followed from hs to the pros....he dominated every single level Anybody remember espn had a Faulk watch back in the day when he was in college? Where when he played they always would click over to his highlights and kept track of his yards. He was that electrifying.

To my mind and eye, as a runner, he was a 50/50 combination of Tony Dorsett and Barry Saunders. And a hint of Fred Astaire. He exhibited perfect balance. Looks like he ran on the balls of his feet, not the toes. One of my absolute favorite RBs ever. Maybe the most complete back since Walter (run,block, throw, catch in equanimity and with clinical execution). So great at it all, that I just never think about him until I see it again. I was working at GMC in Valencia CA. in Sales in 2006 and I noticed that Marshall Faulk had his SUV in Service and I knew it would be my only ever chance to get his Autograph. I could tell he was not happy. Who is when you have your ride in service. I was not going to let that stop me. I ran out tomy truck and got my 1999 Rams Super Bowl football and ran it back in and Marshall was happy to sign it. I will never forget that. His truck was ready and he left.

The greatest RBs, around 5'10ish, huge thighs and glutes, can stop and turn on a dime, but can also lower the boom and IMPACT tacklers.... Sanders, Faulk, Dorsett, Thomas, Campbell, Payton, Craig, all jaw-dropping to watch! MASSIVE PLAYERS who dominated their roles! Sweet memories! Thank you for all your rumbling runs! Hot feet and six point treats! You guys will never die in my heart!

Had the pleasure of watching him play at SDSU. Incredible back. Fast legs and great hands. One of the best receiving running backs ever. Also was robbed of the Heisman trophy at least once.

I remember a running back from my hometown in California was picked higher than Marshall going into San Diego State. But he had a hard time in the studies so he ended up coming back...and now Marshall is one of the greatest of all times

I remember the first time I saw Marshall Faulk. He was at San Diego State. I didn't know who he was. Hadn't even heard his name before. I laughed from excitement every time they fed him the ball. I think he finished the game averaging 10-11 yards a carry. I watched every game i could after that. I knew he was going to be huge. To me, no one can ever touch Barry Sanders, but I knew after that first game he'd be an amazing player in the NFL.

Honestly, when I met him it was a dream come true. Humble guy, who just loves the game.

I'd say Mora did that late deal on purpose.. He started that meeting really so that he would be late so that he can have a reason to bench him long enough to not be in top 5... I could be wrong but that's just what it seems to me.

Marshall Faulk was my favorite running back in his heyday. I still remember my brother collecting pages and pages of Emmitt Smith football cards. I had at least 6 pages of Marshall Faulk and mind you, this was a player who never played for my favorite football team. I just love everything about this guy. Watching this vid, I learned so much more and my appreciation was renewed and grew even more. I love the part in the video where he got 7 TDs at SD State and nearly 400 yards. The reporter asked him and he gave credit to the guys blocking and how they "worked their asses off." Marshall is clearly someone who gets it. Such a smart guy, coupled with the talent of less than 1%, and the work ethic. Those things rarely all come together and when they do, it's something super special. It was bad the way Coach Mora did him before contract time, but it worked out better for him IMO. My cousin started liking the Rams again and their high power offense. We both had stopped supporting them once they moved to St. Louis. But my cousin liked them once again. I was still wary and never truly liked them until they came back to LA, but I definitely rooted for them over most other teams. Although I remember Faulk from the Colts, Faulk IS the Rams embodiment. Kurt Warner, all those receivers, Marshall carrying the football, and catching passes out of the backfield more than I personally had ever seen from a back, it was insane. Shotgun formation 75% of the downs. Damn, it's rare a team can get away with that; the Patriots with Tom Brady being the only other team I've seen do that. I hope Faulk has no regrets because he is an amazing player and person. Excellent VID!!!

For a kid that grew up in such poor and difficult situation and then become not only such a world class football player and champion but become such an incredibly classy individual and great man... It would truly be an honor to be his friend... Truly humbling and inspiring! Kudos to his mom as he was obviously very well parented by her.

Marshall is a special guy. Exudes confidence and drive. A good friend of mine got a scholarship to SDSU before Marshall got there. I will never forget him raving about this freshman kid who was really fast. Nobody had heard of Marshall yet. Not long after that every football fan in California knew who he was.

And it was given to me by my older brother who's no longer here. Which just makes it that much more valuable. But also it makes me proud to own Marshall's jersey for the life he lead. Awesome story. Awesome player and it sounds like an even better person. I grew up a Niners fan (until Owens then Mariucci left) and I remember Dickerson being a problem. I remember Bettis being a problem. I remember the '89 Rams when Flipper Anderson caught the TD pass against the Giants in OT (and ran straight to the locker room) thinking they'd be a problem. That Rams team with Warner, Faulk, Bruce, Holt though? There was just nothing anyone could do with that. I remember seeing highlights of Warner throwing 20 TDs to 12th string TEs on Fox score updates. Shout outs the the New England film & production team for being the unsung heroes of Super Bowl 36. Yes that was a Brady fumble against the Raiders though. Yes that was a catch by Bert Emanuel though.
