How to Scout with No Money

Күн бұрынEver gone to scout in Football Manager, only to realize your scouting range is too limited? No money left? No scouts at all? No problem on FM20! I have compiled a list of tips to help you find great players on the cheap. The art of the trial, raiding youth national teams, coach scouting knowledge - all can change the way you play FM.
Being able to find players while limited can give you a huge advantage over the rest of the league, whether you are amateur or close to a world scouting program. I personally value talent discovery and acquisition as the most important thing in Football Manager, so in order to thrive consistently, you have to be able to get the wonderkid in every situation.

When I'm managing at an L1/L2 level I invite so many players on trial that the UN has to investigate me for human trafficking charges. I'm mean you can't let the Premier League, Barca, PSG, Real rejects slip through, every now and then you find a golden nugget not good enough for PSG/Barca with five-star potential model citizen personality and 20 determination.

Note about using youth national teams to scout: This isn't just true for small clubs. I've found more future first team players by using this strategy in my Chelsea save than I have via my scouts. It's particularly useful after the first season as a way to find good regens.

Pretty helpful this! If you are managing a team in the UK probably good to set a filter on second nationality: UK. Furthermore I would like a video on promoting from championship to premier league. A whole new world opens for you, but it's kinda overwhelming. What should you manage first? Build bigger stadium? Go sign a lot of new players? Spend on a few really good ones? Change tactic to defensive and adjust your team? Etc. Etc.

Love ur vids. There is one additional scouting method I use: COACHES!!! I've used my coaches, fitness coaches, GK coaches ... any coach ... with high enough Judging Player Potential (and that's relative in the lower divisions) to scout my players when I'm in charge of some broke-ass lower division team. What they will do is weed out the half star and one star duds. Anyone who might be interesting, I reserve my scouts for them.

(aside from the tips in the video) At the semi-pro level I used the following scouting strategy to get myself to higher leagues: 1. Assign scout as 2nd job for all staff. Most staff you can get is abyssmal, so sign more of them. Instead of the 1 part-time scout you now have 10 part-time scouts. 2. Sign youth level released players from top division clubs. Most will be direct starters for you depending on the division you play in.

One aspect you could have included is to tap your Director of Football for suggestions. I do this for every new start (before I have scouts) - on day 1 I will ask for suggestions for free signings at every position I am sure to need improving (usually pretty much all of them). Then I leave him to search for players worthwhile to add to the club and sign them (in responsibilities section), but I keep final contract approval in my hands for the times when his player/salary doesn't make sense in my plans for the club. In my current Whitby save (playing Dafuge Challenge), the DOF has found me 3 very good players that I wouldn't have found on my own and they are all integral to the club as we move into League play in our 4th season.

Depends on the club i guess, in bigger clubs it's harder to buy them for bargain price even if you make their morale abysmal lol. An even richer clubs would resign them for large contract even if the players are just 17 yo, kinda realistic...

A tip you forgot, especially if you do use attribute filtering, is increasing the player and youngster knowledge of your manager when using smaller clubs. This will give you more players and more knowledge of said players to start of with.

Great video again man - really useful! I have one question about scouting though. I’m in my third season and my Director Of Football / General Manager used to sign some good young & cheap players for the U19’s in the first half of my first season but then just stopped completely and he hasn’t signed anyone since then. I haven’t changed the staff responsibility, do you know any other reasons why that might be happening? 😬

Random question, if you have a league on view only at the start, can you add it as a playable league later on? I’m starting at a really small team so don’t want Brazil Argentina etc slowing down my game when I’m not going to be signing their players for a long long time?

I'm at the end of year 2 with Duedelange and I'm starting to think my board will never give me the option to increase scout range. They aren't declining my request, they aren't even giving the option. Europa group stage, and millions earned, and I'm still relying on my personnel's knowledge to find anyone outside Luxembourg.

1. Go to the home page of any playable League 2. Click on News > Transfers You will see a list of rumours about signings and loan targets, possibly even your own club. You can now consider poaching these targets, nice little way to find players that might play in your leaugue. Basically getting the media to scout for you.

RE signing trialists. In many leagues free agents can be signed at anytime. Also, younger players do not need to be registered in some leagues.

Might be the wrong video to ask this question on, due to topic relevance, but I’ll ask anyway. I’m looking to develop a new tactic for my Rennes save. Looking to move away from the overused (IMO) 4-1-4-1 Wide to a 3-4-1-2 in attacking/positive games and 5-2-1-1 in defensive/cautious games. Now when it comes to adjusting that tactic throughout the season, how often should I do that? I see the assistant manager recommending changes all the time and it’s beyond annoying and my team is kind of temperamental about the tactics I have set up now from game to game. Anyway advice on how often to change and how to keep players invested to a tactic? Thanks.

Alternatively, you could set up your screenflow for all the competitions you want feedback from, and then see the results from each round automatically, and then find some hidden gems that way.

Handy trick as well if you don't consider it cheating. Scout players that are willing to come to you that are wanted by bigger clubs then you (or just as big if at the top).

Much better way for your triaslist not to impact your coaching staff and team spirit. Dump them in the u18. This allows you to offer them a trial longer then a week so you can get full knowledge without any real negative impact. ( Any talented youngster trains with the u23s/B team for me, u18 is the dumping ground.) Now you can have a lot more triaslist around. PS Clicking offer trial in the bottom corner on scouting screen limits it to one week in older versions of fm, as there was no default trial length. So instead right click on the name and do offer trial there and you can do 4 weeks. Generally you need 2 to 3 for full knowledge, depending on FM level, scouting package and player knowledge of your manager.

Hi! I need some advice about building a new stadium. For example, Chelsea save. After expanding only 57000 seats. And in 2027, after winning all in the world, affiliates in China, USA, Europe - the board still rejecting the new stadium because of the small fan base. How can I resolve it??

I need help. My captain (Daley Blind) is a model citizen and he’s key in my mentoring groups. He’s 33 in my save and I extended his contract for one more year. However, for some reason he has a light influence in my mentoring group, even though he’s still a team leader, playing consistently and he’s still my captain. How is this possible?

Someone please talk this through with me, I’m Fulham in 2030 i finished 5th last season I have a former PSG left winger cost 90 mil a wonderkid midfielder who’s insane etc I got rid of a striker because he didn’t get any game time last season apart from that I bought a new defender The tactics work for those players because I did well with them last season the young players have progressed a year, so why am I now 15th halfway through the season?????!! Is it because a few coaches got changed? They like the same formations and everything I don’t understand it seems I cannot use attacking mentality anymore either without conceding goals

On 2, you can also use affiliate clubs to expand world knowledge, other then using staff members. Personally I don't do 3 as I consider it "cheating" if the club allows it I might send a scout to these tournaments but I won't troll through the list of players. Plus I have hidden attributes on and always have my manager with low knowledge, as to prevent me "cheating" this way. 4 for me is also way too cheese lol, but if I might offer some of them trials if they pop up in recommendations. I never filter by attributes, ever. Makes it more "real" and challenging to me.

You dont scout the nation the new coach is from. The new coach with the knowledge of a new country or region adds more players that are now visible into your player search pool :)

Before signing a new staff member check out his info page, it shows his knowledge level in different countries. After you sign him your player and staff search menu will display players and staff from these countries.

Anyone please? i d like to ask something cause i m desperate to find a solution. I control both options of scouting and assigned every scout to a nation/region. I have 25 scouts. None of them returned with a young player recommendation. or many recommendations in general. Assignments last for months , i get 4-5-6 reports and always estimated time is N/A. Unless i stop them , i think they would never end. Moreover the country that a scout is assigned doesnt even show up in his knowledge even after months. What the f**k am i doing wrong?

@@ozancanan9879 you dont have to start over, you can click on the league then press 'add as playable league'. The league will then get loaded in at the start of the next season.

4:20 (lol) an you do something indepth on Training work load? I did a small test of a team with 5 strikers, a team with 20, a team with 40, and a team with 80, all with only 5 coaches, and even though those coaches were really they couldnt handle the 145 identical players, and attributes didnt grow by much over the season. I am of course lazy and dont want to do more testing, so im gonna ask you to do it

I am managing in Mexico, I can sign players for around 10-20M without a problem, but I do all of these too... I mean how can you not sign 20 Americans with 4-5 stars potential for FREE.

Can anyone explain this to me? At the end of the season my beast CDM had a 4,5 star rating and was literally voted best player of the league. Summerbreak happens and he returns with a 3 star rating. He is 28 years old so I don't get it

Did you sign anyone over the summer in the CDM position? Cause if you did, and that player is better than the guy who used to be 4,5 star, that will lower his rating. If you also changed coaches or who is responsible for giving you scoutings or ratings that can explain it to.

Potential is relevant to your entire teams collective potential, so selling your best player will in turn make your other players appear better or worse
