Saw this company in NYC - the toughest audience - they were INCREDIBLE. Great combination of modern technique blended with traditional form. A company of young dancers who I support wholeheartedly. Thank you!

The Filipino Student Association at UF used to dance the singkil, thanks to my mom who taught these dances. My mom was half-moro, and she grew up in Basilan Mindanao. So she grew up first hand dancing this. It's funny how many fil-ams want to learn the spanish-influenced dances, but it was this dance that won us all our trophies back in the day. Now I understand why my mom doesn't say she is a pinay...she says she is a Maranao.

This awesome, very creative but the original steps are still there. The overall presentation is excellent and not boring. Congratulations to the director for this wonderful, artful and very innovative performance.

Singkil fusion 😀 This interpretation is great for the international audience. Sometimes art has to evolve so that a wider audience can relate to it. I personally like different interpretations of Philippine folk dances.

of all the singkil dance I've seen here in "youtube" this is best among the rest I mean there the greatest ever!! the execution was almost perfect so as the choreography!! I can see that theres dificulty and I would say it's very dynamic. for me its the modern way of dancing singkil. congrats!!

@yt532em That's like comparing apples to pears and it's a false 'non sequitur' statement as if saying that tinikling or singkil presents any religious significance. you may argue that the origins of the dances come from two different areas of the philippines whereas one is 'spanish-influenced and the other coming from a region where Islam is prevalent. One should be extremely careful stating that singkil is a Muslim dance. One should be able to separate religion from culture.

this performance is somewhat a free style sinkil...but this not really the original sinkil, but i am amazed with thier own creativity...keep it up..
@brianmdusa correction brother, this is not actually a muslim dance. This was the dance during the precolonial time of Ph. This is their south filipinos CULTURAL/traditional dance not a religion dance :)

@brianmdusa refering to the other dance vid (i 4got what it was) but this is a cultural dance not a religous one...so it has no reference to Islam...

this singkil is good to watch but if you really base on the book, they performed it wrong..... wrong interpretation.....

may tanong lang po ako sa paggawa po bah ng sayaw na ito ay dumaan sa research o may immersion ang naganap?
@MsVroege9 жыл бұрын
Niresearch yata nila, kasi ang Singkil ay sinasayaw alay sa maharlika/datu (hari ng isang pulo), mga mayayaman na tao sa pilipinas noon bago pa tayo nasakop ng mga spanish.

actually this is like pre-islamic version. So for me, this is accurate, it was hindu-bhuddism Philippines at that time before the islam had influenced the Maranao people.

im sorry but sa version na to, d ko talga gusto. lalo na yang routine at pivot ng prince :( im sorry but the prince looks like ballet dancer lol. i cant feel that he is a prince the way he dance.. tapos yung kembot ng maid ng princess OA. i love singkil but not on this way of dancing.
@hetismij2114 жыл бұрын
A horrible out of context performance of singkil where fan girls are replaced by umbrella girls and a even 'touching the princess' then this ballet mix add it all up and there's no standard whatsoever. Leyte Kalipayan Dance Company used to be the best many years ago.
@mvfraser92916 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right Leyte Kalipayan Dance Company is still the best until now, very authentic and pretty obvious that the Artistic director made a research about each dance they perform on stage to preserve the history and identity of the people.

your view of the world is a reflection of yourself. if you don't see any beauty in anything around you, you must be living such a miserable life and i pity you. but you know what, why don't you come up with your own and post it here so we'll know how good you are?
