Great tutorial and video. Thank you Paul & Zed. Juat a note regarding oils: Grapeseed oil is considered a semi polymerizing oil. These are considered fully polymerizing (Food safe) oils: Flax/Linseed, Tung, Walnut, Safflower, Poppy seed. I use Safflower oil. It's almost clear (Will not change or taint the wood) and tastless.

Fantastic quality as usual. I was looking again at some if your older videos and noticed something missing...sharpening. A couple of your subjects mentioned having someone do sharpening for them but noone has demonstrated their methods. Obviously sharpening is a subject on it's own and might have been too much to include in a previous video but it might be a good subject for future videos. I think Mr. Stoffer demonstrated hook knife and auger but maintenance but I don't recall anyone showing axes knives or gouges. As usual this was a fantastic video.
@Zedoutdoors
@Zedoutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Hi James, firstly a sincere thank you for your kind words, in regards to sharpening I have covered it in the past but you are right in that I haven;t covered it in detail in recent times. I do have plans for that in the works over the coming months so stay tuned dude ~Peace~

A great tutorial all very helpful for those of us just begining. One question how green/freshly cut was the wood?
@Zedoutdoors
@Zedoutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew the wood was fairly green, Birch tends to dry out fairly quickly so you don't wanna leave it to dry for too long before carving. Many thansk for watching and for the kind words ~Peace~

As Zed says, it was very green. I carve wood upto six months old but within days of preparing a blank as thats when they start to dry out.
