I spent a few days in beautiful Dorset in the South West of England with a very talented friend and full time craftsman Adam Hawker
In this video he shows his technique for carving a spoon, something he has never shown outside of his private workshops and seminars before
Yes this is a very lengthy video but Adam has a very meticulous process for carving spoons and I didn't want to leave any of his valuable teaching out
His work is internationally renowned so an opportunity to learn and observe his entire process is captured here for you to see
To connect with Adam on Instagram please click this link here - / adamhawker1
To view more of Adams work please feel free to check out his website - www.adamhawker.com
To find out more about the location we filmed at - www.mallinson.co.uk/index.html
As always I appreciate you watching
Peace
Zed

What an awesome master craftsman Adam is, nearly 2 hours of pure tutorial absolutely brilliant. At one point i was thinking that he might just go to deep in the bowl ?? Seeing daylight coming through, wonder why it is that you get carried away with hollowing out ? His spoon knives are something else, they look like nick westerman ?? All i have is a beaver craft open type blade and a hook knife from an unnamed set, about 13 quid on ebay, looks like beavercraft but is not !! Certainly learnt a lot, thank you Zed & Adam. Be lucky. Great tutorial! Yaks & Unicorns ? I forge my own carving tools and only use the finest steel which comes from Lilliput. Hardening by quenching the red hot steel in the stale urine from the unicorn which resides in my cellar gives it great edge holding ability. Tempering is accomplished by baking the blades inside a loaf of bread kneaded one thousand times on a marble slab from Atlantis. After grinding and sharpening, the blades are finished by stropping on leather from the rump of a Tibetan Yak which has been blessed by the Dalai Lama. I have yet to re-sharpen any of my blades. Oh yeah, the birds singing in the background of the video were awesome! The birds over here don’t sing quite like that!

Thank you so much Adam and Zed for taking the time and effort to make such a wonderful video. I think it will be one of THE 'go to' videos for spoon carving and generally handling a knife and axe. Adam communicates the subject so well in a manner that it is very easy to follow and Zed, thanks for asking so many good questions. Loved it loved it loved it.

Brilliant! A huge thank you to both of you for sharing both your time and knowledge. There are plenty of spoon carving videos around but this is the first one I've found that has gone into the depth that I've wanted. 2 hours of my life that have been really well spent and probably saved days of trying to work out the whole proces by myself....... totally not thinking about the years of practice it's going to take to get good at it. Thank you again 👍😁👍
