Lovely knife, really well proportioned, great video to watch! My only critique would be that you should've masked off the wood when polishing the brass. Right now you can see that the pores of the olivewood have filled up with black gunk near the guard. Which is a shame because wild olive is such a subtle (and imho very underrated) wood!

Beautiful knife!! nicest I've seen. I would have added a 2nd rivet at the tang, but maybe that's overkill
@zeemanknives
@zeemanknives 2 жыл бұрын
You could if you wanted to...depends on your requirements. Few things to consider...firstly, the tang is quite thin towards the back, so you would have to drill extremely accurate to drill trough the tang. Secondly, the tang should be long enough to balance the pins evenly on the handle...but that means you'll have the change the shape of the handle to a straighter handle to accommodate the longer tang. Thanks for watching

Hello Mike, thank you for watching. You will see in my later videos I moved over to voice over comments instead of typing it out. @zeemanknives
@zeemanknives 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Tom, thank you for watching. The wood is Wild Olive, but this block was not stabilised...although stabilised wood definitely does offer its advantages. The compound I use on the buffing wheel is a standard buffing compound I buy at my local hardware store...in this case it was a buffing compound made for brass.

Love the knife, also a knife maker from South Africa, I knew it when I saw tge brand of your temper oven haha. Random question, do you use methods seen in Red Beard Ops's videos?
@zeemanknives
@zeemanknives 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Jonathan. Thank you for watching! Whereabouts are you based? Haha, yes the "tempering oven"...is probably a standard issue item with most South African families who enjoy camping in a caravan. To answer your question: In some of his vids we use very similar methods yes...biggest difference would probably be me finishing my bevels on a bevel jig instead of my grinder. I just get much more accurate results with my hand files...but if you are proficient enough with a belt grinder to match everything up perfectly then nothing stops you. If I can give credit to knife makers who influenced me on KZfaq it would be: Slavik Tely Walter Sorrels Gough Custom Thank you guys!

The orange drawing instrument with oblong round edges, where did you purchase that from?
@zeemanknives
@zeemanknives 2 жыл бұрын
It's known as a "French Curve". You get different sizes. Most stationary and art suppliers should have it. I bought a whole set with a bunch of different curves and sizes from my local stationary shop.

Awesome knife ! But the music put me to sleep 3x What’s the blade made from Grade 440? Stainless
@zeemanknives
@zeemanknives 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, sorry you did not like the music. No, I used 5160 High Carbon for the blade. All my video projects I start with 5160 since it's a prototype...after that, I use whichever steel the clients wants. I prefer Bohler N690 as a Stainless Steel, much better than 440
