I think a lot of us were hoping Tears would be a "best of both worlds" for both traditional and open world Zelda, melding the best elements of the two formulas together. Unfortunately it was just BotW copy-pasted with some aesthetic changes and a crafting system. The story is a mess due to the game tring to tell a linear story in a non-linear order, and the lore is either just "lmao the zonai did it" or "Pfft we don't give a damn, come up with your own lore." While I always enjoyed the traditional Zelda gameplay, it was always the lore and mysteries that kept me invested in the series. Wondering what new story will unfold before me and what clues will be found to tie it to the other games. Tears of the Kingdom really solidified that those days are over, that, to the Zelda team, the lore is nothing more than easter eggs and aesthetic choices. Barely even an afterthought. I know that gameplay is the highest priority, but its not the only aspect of a game thats important, especially in regards to Zelda. I guess Nintendo doesn't need us traditional Zelda fans anymore. Perhaps its time we start looking for a different series to invest our time in, preferably one where the people behind it actually care about story and gameplay.

I’d love to see your screenplay adaptation! I’d like to see you try and adapt Spirit Tracks since it’s overarching story is simple but the characters and their relationships are some of my favorites! Especially Link and Zelda, they’re so cute 🥰

Although Skyward Sword and Ocarina are good origin stories, doing an adaptation of A Link to the Past with updated visual elements would be a dream. Twilight Princess already pretty much does this, but that's a very different story even if Zant is essentially Twili Agahnim and the rest of the story follows the same plot beats, because video games lol

Crazy how time flies and things change, huh? You're a really passionate person sticking this long to the zelda franchise. As for the screenplay, I think it'd be much better to make an original series rather than a zelda series since nintendo will never change, and could just ruin your life. Maybe if you were going to make said original series, it could use similar tropes, but made with story in mind. I don't want you to be persecuted by nintendo because we've seen that forever, but if you still decide to go that path, I'll be here to see it!

I've started treating games after BOTW and going forward as non-canonical. It's sad Nintendo cares so little about a story that they once cared about so much. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we all look forwards to a Zelda animated screenplay, and I think Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword would work best.

I am holding out hope that BotW is simply ushering in a new coherent timeline. With it being so far removed from the other entries, and also "merging" the time lines. It finally is setting the stage for an ongoing and evolving world that we just didn't truly get with the old games.

I am very interested in the screenplay idea! So happy you will be doing Ocarina of Time, as that is the game that got me interested in the world of Zelda. Would love to see you do A Link to The Past, as well as Link's Awakening, as not too many Animators have done these games. Perhaps if you're feeling bold, maybe even The Adventure of Link. There are some serious flaws in Skyward Sword but I have to give it credit for ancient Cistern being the best dungeon in any Zelda game! And I liked the motion controlled swordplay although an option for buttons and joystick control when I'm too tired to swing would have been nice. But the harp rhythm mechanic was the worst instrument in the Zelda franchise. Also the completely planned out map makes replays dull. While on the other hand BotW and TotK have maps so huge and packed that trying to complete everything a 2nd time would be painful and too time consuming. I think Wind Waker and Twilight Princess hit a great balance with overworld, dungeons, minigames and side quests that I wish they would learn from for future Zelda games. As for the story I don't mind standalone stories like Majora's Mask, Minish Cap, Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks, and Link's Awakening. But rewriting the whole Zelda history and leaving out the Triforce and Hylia info was not good. It would have been easy to write this as taking place soon after Skyward Sword's story and connecting everything but they decided against that sadly... Still TotK combat and building constructs is wonderful and I can not give it enough praise!!!

Admittedly, a part of me wants to admonish you as a theorist channel for being so unwilling to fill in gaps for yourself. That being said I can sympathize with your frustration; I've had my share of experiences where someone working on a property that I'm a fan of decided to do something crazy that doesn't jibe with pre established lore/conventions and it kind of leaves you reeling. On an optimistic note: it is entire within the realm of possibilities that Nintendo will release an updated book on Zelda lore sometime in the near future (next five years, give or take). Also best of luck with the screen play.

Hey, congrats on the degree, and good luck in ongoing content creation, especially original story animation. Personally, I'm hopeful that the next Zelda game will go back to the typical canon-ish stuff we're used to a la Hyrule Historia. I've seen tons of complaints about how BotW and TotK aren't "Zelda-y" enough, that they're too much of a departure, and I completely agree. It feels like the goodwill for the wild era is tapped out, and sales of future games in this style will probably not go as well. What gives me hope is really that TotK was planned as a DLC for BotW, and less that they super love this direction. With the Switch 2, we're likely to get another completely new experience as well, as we do every console generation.

Yeah, Totk definitely damaged my investment in the overarching story of Zelda. Really wished Nintendo would've at least tried to make it fit into the timeline. At least it's a good game on its own.

KZfaq can't be a full time gig for everyone, it's understandable that your job takes precedence. I think you're giving up on Zelda having continuous lore too soon. BotW and TotK are very distant, but still clearly connected to the overall timeline and lore. I think with this game, Nintendo just wanted a little breathing room lore wise, so that they could reinvent the gameplay without being concerned on fitting it to the lore, as this was supposed to be a big reboot for the gameplay formula. BotW made that distance for the purpose of creative space, and TotK didn't connect things because they weren't ready to close that space. Part of that is Aonuma being afraid to box himself in on what he can create. But Aonuma will have to hand over the series to a new director soon, a new creative mind that will probably take their own direction with the series. Younger Nintendo employees seem to be moving away from the gameplay first attitude that Nintendo's old guard clings to, and are willing to put more into story and lore. Just look at Splatoon's lore. New IP by new talent, and the lore already runs deep. I'm personally optimistic that when Aonuma hands it off, whoever takes the reigns will respect the lore more. In the meantime, it's not like he's breaking the lore. BotW directly references people and events from OoT, and the events of the two recent games create all sorts of new questions for the series to explore, so there will still be lore theorizing to be done. And nothing says they can't revisit the older eras to answer questions we have from there. I'm not convinced they won't continue to make 2D Zelda games, which can use the old formula and take place in the old eras. There's no way Nintendo lets Zelda be a series with only one or two games a decade, and not every game can be a BotW size open world. Business reasons alone will mean they make more 2D games, and probably have third party studios work on them, thus have less influence from Aonuma. I'm not saying keep making lore videos (though I still want your theory on the Minish and the Light Force), but rather, for yourself as a Zelda fan, don't give up hope. I'm definitely interested in seeing what you come up with for this screenplay though. Take all the time you need. Are you adapting a title, or creating your own story in an era not explored yet? I'd personally prefer the latter. Maybe explore one of the conflicts we haven't seen directly, like the Interloper War or the Hyrulean Civil War, or focus it on the Shiekah and how the Shadow Temple came to be.

Either way dude, 'Zeldom' is not a good brand name for this channel. 'Zeltik' kind of has that naming convention fully established and is a huge favourite in the entire Zelda and Nintendo market.
