So many zenith watches that are worthy of being in the collection but to me the quintessential Zenith is a Automatic chronograph with the traditional tricolor registers

I have owned this model since it was released. It is my fourth tricolor 38mm El Primero and possibly my favourite. A masterpiece.

I got my A386 manufacture revival last year and love it. And it came with an invitation to go to the manufacture in Switzerland and also with the first service being free. Zenith is definitely a brand on the up and well deserved, I wish them only the best.

That is the best dial of all the El Primeros. Just beautiful. I own a 38 mm El Primero, grey dial with grey, white and blue subdials. Lovely, but I'm jealous of the manufacturer edition. I have worn it every day since mid May this year, so yes, I can attest to robustness of the movement. Incidentally, the El Primero is the only one of the three 1969 automatic chronographs still in production, which I believe says a great deal.

Great review Bruce! Love the macro shots. This is an amazing watch - I was super happy to be able to add it to my collection. One thing you did not mention, as a Manufacture Edition, it was originally only available at the Zenith Manufacture in Switzerland beginning in 2020. Then COVID hit and they made it available online for a brief period. Then when Europe reopened you had to visit the manufacture to purchase it. They have now made it available online again. It pairs beautifully with the recently released Chronomaster Original (online only exclusive edition) which has the original blue and two shades of grey subdials together with the 1/10th of a second chronograph movement. My only request of Zenith - please reissue the original Zenith-branded Gay Freres ladder bracelet for these amazing watches.

Good video 10/10 for the watch

I love the design language of Zenith pieces but this one piques my interest even more. It all just works with a slight reservation on the date at 4:30. This piece like others proves that you don't have to go all out on mechanical technology to produce an item of beauty that has just landed on my want list. Onto the packaging. In a world where there seems to be so much push to sell items in a small recyclable half decomposed box it's great to see some brands appreciating the presentation box (that is probably just as recyclable, just not ready to be recycled yet). I love that you can get an Omega or some Longines pieces encased in its own slice of a tree and a G-Shock in it's own tin tomb. It just adds to the whole experience but I do appreciate that this adds cost and many would prefer a folded piece of disintegrating cardboard for a few bucks less. I guess brands could/should offer a choice of packaging.

Amazing review, Bruce. Looking at what Zenith has been doing lately I am quite optimistic about the brand, and I see this reflecting in the prices. You hardly find a Defy Skeleton Titanium being sold at retail today, I think you have one, right? And congratulations on it. Heuer Monaco is a classic, I would strongly suggest, if at all possible, the golf edition 50th anniversary version, for a few reasons: it is a commemorative one, limited production and one of these models appeared in the most prestigious series of recent times, Breaking Bad. Mr. White was presented by Jesse in an unforgettable emotional scene of the drama, but enough spoilers for those who didn't watch it LOL. Some say Mr. White version LOL. Great video, man! This is the perfect Zenith El Primero for me….my biggest issue isn’t the watch however, it’s the competition. Same goes for the Breitling Pistachio, unfortunately I love the Speedmaster more with its history, case shape etc etc. I love the The El Primero but it falls under the old saying “Love every watch you own, but don’t own every watch you love”.

Really love the new old Chronomaster! I'm really teased by it but I don't really know if any of the dial versions would make me happy long term?! I don't really like the original color scheme you showed here (shame on me) but the 'vintage' edition is just a little too vintagy for me... nevertheless I love that Zenith got back to this beauty! Btw. I absolutely agree regarding the boxes / packaging. I'm soo sad that Breitling nowadays also stepped down a lot in this regard. First they dropped the cool digital guarantee cards, then they got rid of mostly all the manuals and now they even dropped the packaging for some 'sustainable' BS... we all know that in reality they're only saving costs where they can. At least this counts for the basic steel models like the Superocean Automatic. I really like Breitling's new designs and models but you can really feel that they are now also cutting costs at some points. But sorry for the OT...

To me, the proportion of the dial is just plain wrong. The black outer ring is spaced much too inboard of the perimeter of the dial face. Would never be in my collection.
