I think open baffles would really work well on that mezzanine. You could even do 7 channel open baffle surround. That, I have never seen anywhere and who else but Z would do sth that unreasonable? 7 Spatial Audio baffles or some simple DIY ones. Would love to see it.^^

sangen is a great tuner. You can do a search for your local area HD radio stations. Most metro areas has lots of channels.

Large projector screen like you said, treat the floor, 9.4.4 choose 1 speaker for all channels, hang from the ceiling with cables behind the hand rail. large subs placed accordingly and atmos speakers mounted up high on the webs of the beams. With no boundaries nearby I would think that would sound amazing up there! If there was a bathroom nearby that would totally be my bedroom.

I hear you on the digital output Zeos...When Sirius Satellite Radio first came out I was an early adopter and I bought an Audiovox Sirius console tuner specifically because it had a digital coax output. I wanted to get my moneys worth from the McIntosh integrated amp and KEF reference tower speakers that I had at the time. I had a Peachtree Audio DAC between the tuner and the amp. That system is long gone, and I retired the tuner 3 years ago. I pulled it out for this comment and it still works, but reception ws dependent on antenna placement. It sounded great for it's time but now I get better quality sound from my streaming service.

I run a 9.2.6 with a XPA3-Gen3 for front three, and Two Bas-x6s for surrounds and heights. Sounds fantastic for an affordable separates system. XMC-2 processing it all.

my 2010 land rover has HD radio with an optical out that feeds an amp that drives 14 speakers including a center channel. the cool thing about HD Radio is a single radio channel can have multiple digital audio streams aka 101.1-1, 101.1-2. Its like digital over air TV. I live in chicago so most of the local stations have several streams.

Well there is/was AM HD just that most that had it turned if off (due to licensing fees on top of their normal operating cost as well as it was interfering with a station next to them), there's also a thing called AM stereo (C-Quam).

Getting a marantz sr6015 delivered today, with Kef R2c, Kef Q350, and Kef R7 towers. Wondering if I should run the center and bookshelfs from the AVR, and get the basX A2 to power the towers, or A3 to power the LCR...

HD radio is pretty great. It never caught on, it was about 10 years too late and never had widespread support. You would think if they can broadcast HDTV over the air, HD music should be easy. Spotify basically has become the standard.

Insignia has coax out of it's HD tuner. My original Sangean HDT-1 only has analog output. The tuner on the Sangean is superior. But unfortunately many HD broadcasters have given up on the format. Ubiquity has driven itself out of the biz by charging too much for HD Radio licensing. The US needs to go to to the European system of DAB.

The only reason i like the Emotiva blue is because its Emotiva blue, otherwise i do hate blue LEDs and immediately turned them off on my A-700. And Zeos, i think you should turn the mezzanine into a sweet 2 channel listening area with comfy seating and some nice plants. Could leave the mattress up there too if you have to i guess. :)

My old Sony 7.1 is rated at one percent THD and it still sounds pretty decent considering it's around fifteen years old. How would such an apparently poor rating manifest itself? I also run a mid range Marantz in the main room (I actually prefer the Sony as it has a dedicated stereo mode) and a stereo JVC amp from the late eighties (also with a superior THD rating). Actually, just noticed that the Sony has a lower THD listed for 2 channel mode; could it be that Sony is giving a total across all seven channels and others doing it per channel? I honestly couldn't say what difference all this makes.

Issue being that if they have to tell you its over 1% its just a sign of a bad amp. 25 year old Pioneer Receivers made in Japan are 0.03% THD. Sony just doesn't care. The distortion means what signal you are putting in is being distorted by 1% after the amplification.

For the whole cinema thing up there, why not go with it but have it more designated for gaming/MMVs. A more chillout space than simply having it as a movie watching area but still can watch movies up there? Also some transparent back for that 7 channel AMP would be amazing. I'd say acrylic but that scratches up easily. Glass or lightly tinted glass maybe with some subtle lighting would be amazing but vent holes plus even more heavy. Also merch stickers, maybe something about the same size as the stickers on laptops, like the AMD, Intel, Nvidia stickers unless that's already happening then awesome!

HD Radio SOUNDS better but most people these days listen to the Bad Nursery Rhyme Ghetto Talk Talk Talk NO MUSIC at all just Bad Nursery Rhyme words they memorize every word, & just wants too hears dah bad nursey rhyme nonsense. As Musical taste declines so will the Audio equipment wanted to hear it. Compressed, compression Music has NO redeeming quality nor do it's listeners, like a Horse wearing 3 foot Blinders to stay focused on incontinent diatribe babbles. I am Buying this Tuner because a College Radio station I like is in HD.

@Z Reviews Their actually is AM radio HD, sort of. In my area select AM stations are simulcast on the FM HD band. With HD radio each frequency can also contain multiple broadcasts, such as multiple languages or alternate sister stations from a different city.

2 channels driven means ( only 2 channels physically connected at a time). If 7 channels are connected your only getting 90w into 8ohms Max out of 2 channels driven because all 7 are connected.

You gotta get out more. They’ve been transmitting movie sound to your car at the drive in for years. Best Buy sold a portable HD radio under their house brand name, Insignia. You could strap it on your wrist, it came with headphones that doubled as an antenna. It even displayed album art on the screen. Don’t know if it’s still available.

Huh, I thought HD radio was just standard now. Unless I'm thinking of just Digital FM radio and that's a separate thing. But if that's the same, even here in ND, pretty much all my local stations are digital now, sounds like ass in my old '99 shitmobile, but in newer cars you can see all the digital info like the station name and track playing on the display and yeah, it's actually listen-able quality. I wouldn't bother with any radio where I live, while it's mostly digital now, the music choices are all terrible. But if I lived somewhere with better stations, having something that can pick up HD FM would be nice.

I know it's a year old comment, but I have to reply. Sorry for the long winded reply. HD radio is a standard, a standard that pretty much failed due to lack of marketing, not being forced for radio stations to use, the licensing fees radio stations had to pay on top of their original operating costs was just too much for many stations to handle, and the costs of the receivers (you would be paying around $100+ for what's essentially a $20 receiver). If you load down a single station with 3 or more sub channels each sub channel will have to split the available bandwidth with the other sub channels as well as the main channel resulting in a very low bitrate audio for the sub channels, and then there's the fact that the digital signals could only use 10% of the total power output of the analog transmission, which causes digital signals to fade out before the analog signal, that was to avoid the digital signals from interfering with the neighboring stations. AM/MW was also using this standard, but most of not all of them turned it off (it was causing interference with neighboring stations, and the licensing cost they had to pay on top of their normal operating costs), it pretty much failed similarly to AM stereo. HD radio is different than a Digital FM radio. HD Radio is a method of transmitting a digital signal (similar to internet streaming but over the air, it's similar to how digital TV operates, but not entirely, as HD radio is meant to keep compatibility with old analog radios, while Digital TV is not). So essentially they're streaming an MP3 file to your receiver and your receiver is decoding it on the fly. With a Digital radio you have radios that use digital tuning using a DSP that tunes in steps (Pretty much every modern FM/AM radio uses a DSP, on FM it tunes in 100KHz steps, on AM it tunes in 10KHz or 9KHz steps depending on if it's North America, or in Europe).
