Aadit Palicha and Kaivalya Vohra are the founders of Zepto, a start-up from India that promises to deliver groceries in less than 10 minutes. The firm is just one of many businesses to join the wave of what’s known as “quick” or “instant” commerce.
The childhood friends founded the business in July 2021 - right in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. Operations started two months later.
Zepto says it’s now adding 100,000 new users daily.
Watch the video to find out how these teenage Stanford dropouts built a $900 million start-up.

@@acrobat9018 anyone can recieve funds to compete with fast delivery, but was fast delivery ever an issue to begin with? Plus dealing with inventory at that scale is super expensive especially if you have quick perishables. Also although the co founder claims that there is no time pressure on them because it is within 2km, where i live because of the road conditions and traffic going 2 km takes 15 to 20 min alot of times, so how is there no pressure on the delivery guys? Eventually investors will gauge financial health and if they are not profitable it's going to be a nightmare. This is what's happening to swiggy, dunzo and Zomato right now. I saw a zepto delivery boy speeding and jumping the red light, he caused an 45yo mom and her 20yo to fall from thier bike. The mom got lucky, she had hit her head on the road yet she survived, if their bike went any faster then I don't think she would have survived. Also that zepto driver didn't call the ambulance, he escaped the scene. moral of this story: You won't die of hunger if you don't get your groceries in 10 min but you might just risk the life of another person.

Don't Romanticize dropping out of college... Talk about what they innovated and how skillfully they pitched their idea and raised money. Also ask yourself will they make profits down the line. I personally don't find delivery apps turning profitable anytime in history. Even jiomart is struggling in this sector. People are more inclined towards local kirana shops when it comes to grocery purchases. Another problem in which these delivery apps fall short is in not creating a loyal customer base for long term. They don't have one year membership plans where one can avail groceries in credit or discounts in products. These VCs and unicorn terminologies are just a fashion fad in the startup ecosystem. I don't find them becoming big successful corporations getting listed in market indexes.
@sup1291

This start up generates no new innovation. You have door dash, skip the dishes, zomato, Uber eats and so on. What makes it any different from others? Maybe they capture market share in this industry and make money, but it’s a mundane startup when you compare it with the innovation it is accomplishing. On the other hand, Tesla, spaces, blue origin are actively focusing on making something that has never been done before. Tomorrow, if a start up discovered methods for low cost desalination, that would be something. Startups should be measured in what new things they bring to society, rather than just market capitalization or capital raised.

90-95% deliveries in 5-20 mins and average distance from hub to consumer is 1.7 - 2 km. They would need atleast 5-10 min to package groceries once they get order and it takes atleast around 5 min on bike to cover 2km in India. Emergency services in India take >1hr on average(speculative) but groceries in 10 mins. Its nice to get serviced that fast but not necessary. In India there are so many unemployed and poor people and due to emergence of these tech companies they are getting better pay than they would get in a traditional setup. It is essentially these employees that would make these companies sustainable and not just the tech and billion$ valuation. One hopes these companies find a balance between ethical employment practice and riches.

Atleast they made something that'll help their local community in India and not for another country. lol As far as them dropping out of Stanford is concerned, most people forget that people who do get in arent average to begin with. These guys have been developing apps since they were 17, meaning they must know how to code already and they seem to have basic business knowledge as well. Why would they spend millions of Rs in their education when they already achieved what a lot of graduates hope to achieve later in their life? Honestly, I see so many critical comments here, it's insane. Some complaining about non sustainability, some doubting profitability, some even saying why isn't there a 10 minute ambulance service. Make that first. It's crazy! Their product works, and works well. And I really appreciate that they chose to solve a real world problem for the people around them instead of studying at Stanford and then most likely doing a 9-5 job in a MAANG company. Yes, maybe solutions existed before. But they're clearly doing something better, something at scale, something more efficient. And that's why they have the revenue to show. Logistics startups burn a bunch of capital in the beginning since it takes initial investment to create a supply chain. So to the early doubters, I'd say just be patient. I'm sure these kids will prove you wrong! :)
