It’s Pat Flynn. His outreach is huge lol. He is the CEO of smart passive income. It’s a cool channel and I’m not saying he didn’t work hard, but he already had an audience. I like stories of the peeps who do this with no previous audience, those who start from ground zero. Also I’m not degrading him in any way but everyone should realize Pat has years of experience with marketing, selling, creating, etc. He is on of the OGs when it comes to making money online so his learning curve is less than it is for the average viewer of this channel.

I appreciate you bringing this up! I did not, however, use my existing audience to grow this channel. It was important for me to dive into this as a totally brand new person in the space. It would have been easy to email my audience or create videos about the new channel and grow it fast from there, but honestly two things: 1) that would have been "cheating" in the sense of the case study, but 2) that audience would have not aligned and could actually hurt my metrics. My audience (on Smart Passive Income) does not care for Pokemon. They would watch a video, sure, but not become fans.

@@patflynn wow! Thanks for replying Pat:). I realize my comment may have come off negative and I in no way wanted that, probably just having a bad day lol. Want to grow from 0 to 100k subs? Here's a tip: Launch a channel based on the IP of an incredibly popular franchise like Pokémon instead of producing original content. This is how KZfaq works. It rewards mediocre commentary of large enterprises over creativity. Art is dead.
@BadTimeBabble
@BadTimeBabble Жыл бұрын
Let's not pretend all small youtubers are creating art lol. However it does feel like being a small KZfaqr, growth is very hit and miss. Personally we feel our quality has improved but our sub count doesn't really reflect this. Maybe we're just not very watchable lol
@petcopaul
@petcopaul Жыл бұрын
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like you've missed the point. Deep Pocket Monster said that he didn't see any poketubers add story to their videos. They were just cracking packs. When you have to create story, you're then making art. If anything he's revitalizing the standard and challenging the current art form. There are a TON of youtubers where all they do is open packs....but it also took them 5-12 years to get 1 mil subs. This guy added story to his videos and got to 100k in a year. He also took the time to create a good thumbnail. Because it doesn't matter if you have the greatest video in the world if no one clicks on it.
@mygoditsfullofstars7220
@mygoditsfullofstars7220 Жыл бұрын
@@petcopaul I hear you and I agree about the methods he discusses as being important. The point I'm raising is a franchise as big as Pokémon is playing greatly into the success of the channel. Probably more than any technique he discusses here. When thousands of "content creators" cover a brand new Taylor Swift song, they're using her name recognition and brand to get eyes on their channel. Are they bringing something new to the story (song)? Possibly, but the net effect is these creators' brands become "covering Taylor Swift songs." That's what they become known for. I understand the mechanics of it, I just think it's a shame.
@mygoditsfullofstars7220
@mygoditsfullofstars7220 Жыл бұрын
@@BadTimeBabble I agree up to the last line. I think the platform inadvertently favors behemoth brands and continues to grow them while smaller ones decline. Even if they actually do turn out quality content. This guys 100k subscribers aren't subscribing to his original IP, they're subscribing to his take on Pokémon.
@petcopaul
@petcopaul Жыл бұрын
@@mygoditsfullofstars7220 ohhhh, I see what you're saying. Pokemon is a huge company, and it could be easier to ride those coattails than say, Kleenex. But that's the thing, people don't care about Kleenex. People care about Pokemon because it's had such a huge impact. Same with Taylor Swift. Creating original art is verrrrrryyyyy difficult. So until that time comes, people tend to talk about or mimic things that are familiar. Even Mr. Beast started out with Minecraft and COD, then he found his own voice and started creating crazy, new, engaging art. Just curious, what would you suggest that people do if they're first starting out on KZfaq?

Don't quit just yet. The banner on your channel says a lot! Not bad branding angle at all. I like the phrase on it. It paint's a good picture of what one can expect from your channel and it's intriguing. My 20s are far in the rearview mirror and it still caught my attention.

The pokemon niche has many eyeballs, but very little "real" competition in the sense that it's pay-to-play, and very few can afford that bill. A handful of wealthy individuals like Pat Flynn who can afford those fancy packs are propelled to the top. Add his initial audience (he talked about that channel a lot on his podcasts), and that's explains his fast growth. Not a hater (I follow his stuff, after all), but I feel like this has to be put in the right context in order to not misslead watchers.
@cedricol
@cedricol Жыл бұрын
He is doing things right though. He seems to know what he's doing, and has approached this new channel very methodically. But the context is important. And well, he's earned those advantages (money & audience) :) His lessons are basic and known though, but nothing wrong with the basics, and good to be reminder of :) : - Clickable titles & thumbnails - Retention graph as a learning tool - Direct intro to the content (skip the personal intro), with a good hook - Increase rentention with pattern interrupts, open more loops, create stakes, ... (basically story-telling)
