We need to do Edge computing on a device cloud that is not always reachable but could store locally on the device and forward for back up otherwise cloud is too slow for our Computer Vision app. Auth breaks our app when the cloud is unreachable

Before watching vid I thought oh my god... what breakthrough they are about to show, but after starting to watch, I started to get bore and hardly survived it. The app is already programmed but still they were unable to present its output well. They are professionals but their demonstration was like a learner is project showing for the first time in front of class while also troubleshooting. I just like the Firebase services and I use them.

It's live copy / paste, not live coding though. Without understanding the firebase, it's impossible. This is a cheat. To me, it's zero to zero. It's a marketing pitch.

as a woman in tech, I've never been/seen anyone get bullied over it or been told I shouldn't pursue it. And I would also disagree with the idea that programming is for everyone. I think it's for people who have a structured way of thinking rather than an artistic one.

In the video, you write to the firestore uploads collection from the mobile client after the recording was successfully saved to cloud storage. Wouldn't it be more effective to write to the uploads collection directly from a cloud function triggered by the writing to the cloud storage?

It's certainly another option. One reason you may not want to do that is because currently Cloud Storage triggers happen on any change to the bucket, even if you delete something or add something unrelated. Of course you'd include a check for such scenarios, but you're still triggering a function you aren't using, which could waste money. After all, your app may want to hold more than one type of data in Cloud Storage. The current function we use is only triggered when a document is written to the uploads collection, which means it won't get triggered by superfluous actions. You could also have more than one Cloud Storage bucket--keeping a specific bucket for audio uploads--and then use that to trigger the function. It really depends on the specific needs of the app.

It's live templates in most editors. You can create a shortcut like these in editors like IntelliJ using live templates. Flutter also uses this concept in its plugin for IntelliJ editor where you can type "stful" and it inserts a flutter Stateful widget code for you. This is *NOT* a "Live Coding"! They start with a pre-made application and only proceed with copy-pasting quite big chunks of code. Would be very nice if they: 1. Talk less 2. And code (not copy-paste) more 3. (Maybe) taking on some smaller use-case and focusing on one language only (JavaScript) I would recommend to skip watching this one - save yourself 28 minutes.

The current Unity and C++ SDKs for Firebase are wrappers around the native Android and iOS libraries. For that reason they only work on those platforms, and not on Ubuntu and Windows.

Hmm, if i'm able to use Firebase Datastore using Amiga C, you can certainly do it for the 'popular' platforms... It only uses REST, OAUTH2 etc its not rocket science

Not so much live coding, more like live copy and pasting with very little code explanation.. Firebase is pretty cool, but this video is only good as showcase of what Firebase can do, rather than how to code Firebase apps..
