In this hour-long tutorial, we’re going to create a Maleficent-inspired composite using Photoshop and the plugin Optics by BorisFX. For those of you that don’t have the plugin, I have included the optics-created layers in the assets. In the tutorial, you’ll learn some great tricks for compositing, adding atmosphere, adding depth, color grading and a lot more!

Hello. I love really the workflows from your videos and follow you work. I have just on issue :) How can i bring a created mask in Boris (B/W) to Photoshop ! I know, maybe a ridiculous question... but i cant find it out :(

Unfortunately, this isn't currently supported by Boris. But a workaround is to make your mask then add a constant color layer of black under your image layer and add a constant color effect of white to your masked image. This will give you a black and white mask of your selection that you can then copy into a mask in Photoshop.

I did it...it works....but i think i am just a bit confused....the background is now of course black(i understand also why hahaha) but i need the image for the mask transparent....maybe you can help a beginner a bit again (my last question for that)...sorry :)

@@rainervolz2391 Take the black and white layer produced by Boris, go to channels and click on the RGB thumbnail while holding CMD. This will give you a selection of ONLY the white, which you can then use to make your cutout, create a mask, etc.

When I try to download the tutorial assets, I am taken to a "forbidden" page. I tried this with several types of browsers (safari, chrome, firefox).

I faced a problem using optics specially S-flares and S-zap. Can you tell me why is that?

@@nuclylearn I was unable to apply the presets starting with the prefix S that I know stands for Saphire. i don't know if they are not available in trial version or its my laptop that does not have a GPU. that's why I wanted to know from you what may be the problem.

@@ThePrinceatti The issue you have is the Sapphire effects do not show up in unlicensed, watermarked mode. But do not worry, under help menu, you can "request trial" to get a fully working version of Optics with Sapphire filters enabled for a trial.
