「鄉愁詩人」 余光中在中大度過的十一年，可以說是他文學生命中的香港時期。中大得天獨厚的環境令他感嘆, 就連大霧天氣下的中大校園在他的筆下也變得有趣起來。
他說一所大學如果不強調人文精神，就不能稱爲大學。中大的人文精神就在「博文約禮」這四個字。
Nostalgic poet, Prof. Yu Kwang-chung spent 11 years in CUHK, which could be called the Hong Kong period of his literary career. He was mesmerized by the natural beauty of CUHK. Even the foggy days at campus became a beautiful poem under his pen.
He said a school could not be called a university if it fails to emphasize the importance of humanistic spirit. He believes the motto of CUHK, ‘through learning and temperance to virtue’ is the essence of humanity for the University.
