Excellent video. I recommend watching the full 10-episode series of Zhan Zhuang Standing like a tree (originally a Channel 4 TV series in the UK from the 80s, called: Stand, Still Be Fit) by Master Lam Kam Chuen, which can be found here on KZfaq.

Thank you for your clear instructions and explanation! I started practicing Zhan Zhuang after I was diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS and other chronic diseases that affected my mobility (My immune system, nerves, & gut are f***d up 😅)….It has helped me to not focus on the pain for 2 minutes at least 😅

Glad to hear! While I cannot personally testify to this, I have heard accounts from others who had MS or other chronic conditions that they were able to completely heal through Zhan Zhuang and other energetic practices/interventions. It's no fun to be going through in the moment and is easier said than done, but there is the possibility that this could also be an initiatory process for you. Countless are the stories of men and women who were initiated into the healing arts through their own debilitating health crises. Sending you well wishes.

@@SacredWildman That is why I’m experimenting with it! (I’m a nerd!) I also wanted a way to continue martial arts…I was always interested but never started….and then MS happened…I was so heartbroken….and then my nerdy self (and Googling) led me to internal martial arts and I thought….”If I can’t move like I used to, I can at least be a bada** Jedi.”

just found your video, am listening to it; I get what you are saying about grounding, but the pulling down for me resonates with depression, sluggishness; what I experience with standing-like-a-tree practice is a kind of inner flow - that leads to peace, clarity, focus - thanks for posting!

Thanks for sharing! I can get what you mean. For me the sinking is more about letting go and working with gravity vs against it. When that happens, that's when I feel the inner flow you speak of.

Well, Zhan Zhuang is a few thousand years older than that. Actually, its an ancient way to reach enlightenment through standing meditation. The pictures below will remind you of the Wu Chi posture for example. fore.yale.edu/World-Religions/Jainism en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kayotsarga#:~:text=Twenty%2Done%20of%20the%20t%C4%ABrthankaras,in%20kayotsarga%20for%20a%20year.

Be careful saying Zhan zhuang is about bringing energy down, in Zhan zhuang we don’t mess around with our energy but let natural processes that occur during Zhan zhuang affect the energy however it needs to be affected. Zhan zhuang is in my opinion the safest form of health cultivation because it is the most hands off approach I know off. The feldenkrais method is good too but it does not have the gentle workout effect that Zhan zhuang has due to usually being done while lying down.
@SacredWildman
@SacredWildman 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing. I agree that letting natural processes unfold is the best way to go. From the sources I had initially learned from, they all talked about "sinking the qi" which is why I included it in my video as well.

I can instantly see the problems you are having with arms too high. Arms, top, toes too forward. Leaning forward. You need to lower arms to chest, heart level. Its a seat problem, requires a seat correction, Slow is best along with little changes. I also learnt a lot from this video, thankyou.

@@aidenfisher5679 Normal relaxed nasal breathing into the belly and chest. I'm not focused on thinking. I'm bringing my awareness to the sensations in my body and dropping down. Discomfort can appear in the form of shaking and trembling. Those are common responses and according to my teacher, is just a sign that your body is burning off resistance.

@@SacredWildman : abdominal breathing is best. No chest breathing. In thru d nose, hold, then out thru d mouth. Long slow deep in, hold, then long slow out. Fill d belly / abdominal, not d chest. D chest should not move at all. U must make it thru d shaking & trembling to break thru to d nxt level. Rinse & repeat. There is much more. Do u do sitting meditation? This will balance u out. Do u do ending movements? This will help to store / retain d ch'i. Otherwise u lose d ch'i u hav accumulated in each session.
