In the four decades since his death, Bob Marley has become so iconic that it’s hard to believe he was ever a real person.
Thankfully, in addition to the wealth of music he left behind, there’s also a trove of photographs documenting his impactful life.
In 2020, to commemorate what would’ve been Bob’s 75th birthday, Ziggy Marley curated a book of photographs of his dad called Bob Marley: Portrait of the Legend. Ziggy has, of course, gone on to become a reggae icon in his own right and is now an eight-time Grammy winner, a philanthropist, author, and keeper of his dad’s legacy along with the rest of the Marley family.
Today we’ll hear Malcolm Gladwell and Ziggy talk about the turbulence in ‘70s Jamaica caused by two opposing political parties. Ziggy recalls the night gunmen ambushed the Marley house, shooting his mother and Bob-both whom thankfully survived. And Ziggy answers the question we all want to know: was the famously soccer-obsessed Bob Marley really any good on the field?

I love Bob Marley. I know he was a prophet, I know he was a man of God. I don't have to shake fire stick to see that. He prophesied, that they would be a time of so much trouble, they would be sailing off in their space ship, going off on their ego trip, don't care for you, don't care for me. Elon Musk, Charles Branson and Jeff Bezos, spending Billions of dollars on their ego, while people all over the world are living in deplorable conditions. A war is going on where people are dying, and the potential for it to escalate into a nuclear war. They don't care for you and they don't care for me. So much trouble in the world. Bob Marley, you will always be relevant. Could you be Love and give Love . ❤️. AFRICA UNITY

Bob Marley's spiritual legacy was betrayed by the love for wealth of his family. And he knew it way before his death and didn't let a will so that the greed of his relatives could be tested.

I don't wanna laugh but 😂 You're saying Bob was testing his family by not leaving a will to see if they're greedy? Hmm, not sure that's the reason but okay

Why not follow the example of Barbados and declare independence from England? All these singers been preaching about fighting for their rights without proposing an emancipation proclamation for their own nation. Such hypocrisy
