Yeah, at lvl 30, it's not much of a difference, but as trying out I told to my friend: "Imagine having this at lvl 1." It's like having the 605 without suffering in Amur.

Nice review as always...Old king never had a chance against 605R as 605R does have unfair advantage over it...I mean it's artifically enhanced or mutated I would say but still if I have to choose one out of these two I would choose 612H over 605R.

Am I the only one that ignored all other mastodon reviews to watch this one first?

From my use, add-on capability doesn't mean much if you can't get there, so performance edges out. With that, the 605 is just more capable. I can get to more areas and handle terrain better with the 605R. The 612 suffers greatly from that nose that it's always sticking in places it doesn't belong. Being a damage magnet because of it and damage tolerances, you will really make use of those repair points. Even taking somewhat moderate corners you will find that front overhang scraping the opposite walls and barriers while trying to avoid contacting on the inner side. As soon as the ground starts to become uneven (where it dips higher than that overhang) this thing will wedge itself in, forcing you to reposition to take hills at different angles. So it's easy to see that overhang is the largest downside responsible for most of the issues. Having a raised suspension (or active suspension) will reduce some of these issues a bit more. However, having this truck available from the start of the game for new players, this will spoil them. It will really make mincemeat of early maps and not give the same level of satisfaction for using underpowered vehicles to take on the early tasks. If that doesn't matter to the player, then they have a massive beast on their hands that will reign supreme until they uncover the 605R, the true king.

As great as the Mastodon is, I still prefer the 605R. It just feels a little nicer to drive for some reason, absolutely recommend getting this DLC though

If anything it compliments the 605R. You trade some of the 605Rs ultimate off road ability for a LOT more useful addon selection. I also find it tends to traverse moderate mud faster than the 605R, it even seems to cross blue snow slightly faster. But one HUGE plus for it is the low saddle, no more having to strugglebus with 50in tire trucks whenever you need to pull a low saddle trailer. The 605R is still the king of "how the fuck did I manage that" off road haha.

Great video Nathan! I thought and maybe I’m wrong isn’t the high gear like 2kph faster in fine tune then advanced special. To me I didn’t notice a difference they were both pretty slow. I did look at this before but I forget exact number I think 14 of the 24 heavy trucks can have chains. The funny things about the engines was the fact that they get better with consumption. So they are stronger and more fuel efficient.

I prefer the the 612H over the 605R because of the amount of add-ons. I'm used to trucks with bigger chins as I use the DAN and the Azov 7 all the time. They will probably adjust the chin damage like they did with other trucks in the next patch.

I don’t really take it being a damage magnet as an issue, as with the fuel addons (including the preinstalled one) you get tons of repair points, so you can tank hits in it just fine

I've noticed that this can get stuck on a moderate hill just laidened with fuel tank frame without a trailer, i think it is getting 'high centered' (in code only) because it is acting like other trucks when they get a bolder stuck under them, but the wheels are twitching as if trying to pull down a stationary tree with a winch

I can confirm that the overhang makes this truck a liability in certain areas, but it's an absolute juggernaut for what it is. I personally recommend the MAX Trucks mod that gives this beast a serious overall improvement.

I haven't run into performance issues while driving the 612H like not being able to climb hills. This truck is that one truck i go to when i really need something done without putting my brain in to high gear. I haven't unlocked the 605R yet but with how the 612H perform, i have high hopes for the 605R.

This is my go to truck for everything difficult. I used in Amur to grab the DLC trucks and it was easy and quick. I only found out later that Amur is the toughest map in the game. This truck is a DEMON

I restarted my game save and using this truck in Michigan and Alaska was actually a breeze.

ZIKZ 612: The antidote to Amur. Only standalone rig I have but I regret nothing because it SHREDS anything in its path.

From watching others play it, it seems like a a good ride. I won't be buying it but not because its a p.o.s. I would like to have seen the E-7429 more than 7310 but that's just my opinion. Another great review, Nate.

Im not that excited for this truck as it looks so similar to the 605, and it also looks to be overkill on most maps, with exception of Amur and other large maps with scarce fuel and tough terrain. Would love to se an option for medium logs on it, then it would rival my goto the Azov 7 for that kind of cargo.

As a person who tried out the Mastodon first than the 605R with 150 hours in game (not much) I can definitely say that the Mastodon it's the Early game ruler. You pay 3-4 dollars and you basically destroy Michigan and also Alaska due to its flexibility in terms of add-ons, Taymir as well. I agree with the problems it has explained on this video, the long nosed cabin it's a problem, the turn radius is just awful and it feels heavy and clumsy when you reached mid/late game as you unlock the tayga and also the Azov family. But the versatility of this truck compare to the early ones it's unmatched, its power and wheels rush the three starter regions like I said excepting certain specific areas where you'll need something smaller. Maxing out the tayga and the Azov 6431 show you that maybe it isn't as good as it seems. But moving on to Amur just demolish the truck. You can only use it a few times because of it's enormous size and it's turn radius. It will lift some heavy cargo for sure and you can use it on icy roads but you can't go through ice and you basically can't turn at the mayority of heavy cargo missions in this region and this makes you to use a smaller truck with the same power and capabilities, with more maneuverability that can drive through ice just in case (the zikz 605R). My opinion based on my experience: Buy the dlc. The truck promise and delivers, but don't expect to use it all the time like you can with the 605R, The taygas or so. The biggest problem of this truck is how big it is.

I was more interested in just using the modded versions (Horizon?) But I know that I'll be getting this now. Good video.

Thanks for the in depth look at this truck. To me this feels like a cash grab. I think paid trucks should be for lovers of specific brand, like the jeeps, the range rovers or the tatras. I am czech, sou you know I had to get tatras. Armatsu Forester would be a good paid truck as well, as its capable, but very niche. Mastodon on the other hand is easily the most capable low saddle+small crane or bed+small crane+trailer truck. Just does not feel right that they ask extra for this one. Myself, I try to steer away from Azov 73210 even, as it sometimes feel dirt cheap to use. There is one detail about the mastodon i have hard time finding anywhere. Can it do the logging crane and low saddle at the same time? That combination would be useful for log overstacking.

well it goes like this: if i can choose between 612 and 605? 605 everyday but if i had to get rid of one? well then id wanna keep the 612 also i think its kinda pretty, particularly with that last tank addon

Personally i have it and i find that rather that being the successor it compliments the 605, yeah the 612H has overhange but so what, so does the Asov 10x10 but people still love that, it may not be the best but with the way you can have the 612 and 605 work together its a queen and it works just as hard as it’s other half

Somebody found mysteriously-gone pulling power is due to the "light" weight of the ZHM tire it uses (200kg). I couldn't find the test video anymore but basically a modder increased tire weight from 200kg to 600kg (as 605r), then its pulling power is never gone anymore

Hello Nate, I bought the game this summer and I just wanted to ask what could be an upgrade from the paystar 5700

I have recently reinstalled snowrunner and got this. Felt like cheating but on the other side I played through Michigan and Alaska so often and it helps the get fast through early lvl stages.

Soft suspension? Did they change something about it, because my truck has very little suspension travel on the rear two axels. Doesn't feel soft at all...

It’s a good truck that should have been a great truck. Maybe I work these maps harder than most, but there are definitely downsides to it. It can’t pull a trailer with concrete slabs straight up the north side of the quarry in Russia, whereas many lesser trucks can. It feels like it’s just way too heavy for it’s power. I feel it drops to first gear in spots other heavy trucks like the Kolob trucks and even the 605R wouldn’t.

I’ve done insane stuff with this truck. I’ve taken it off-road in snow up almost 90 degree angles with cargo, rescued trucks in Amur, carried massive cargo, you name it. It won’t get stuck in any terrain ever. The only time it will get stuck is if you try to take shortcuts on routes that are too narrow

I restarted a campaign to play with some new friends, and I dislike how I now spawn with like 22 trucks and scouts in my garage, starting with massive power houses like mastodon and the marshel, apache, rezvani, and the jeep wrangler all for free, and then if I choose to sell them I instantly become a millionaire ;-; I know there's new game + but its honestly not too great

If you want high gear… choose low +. Interestingly, I’ve found low + to be way higher, like 3rd gear in auto, while high is more like 2nd gear. Tis odd

I don't understand this review. This truck literally trivialized everything in Amur when I bought it. It's as strong as the 605 but has chained tires and can carry up to 10 packages if you are good at crane managment because he has the crane at the back and can stabilize free cargo superbly. Did they change things in this? I am a newer player and I don't have any issues with power or damage. It doesn't get stuck, it doesn't flip and continues even through broken ice.

im sorry but you really had to emphasize more that it laks power and it locks up. Everything else doesnt matter if it cant pull on a slight incline

Tldw: it sucks and is ugly

Can anybody explain me whe are all reviewers are so exicted abut Ziks 612H? I tried one yesterday in Amur and the truck really sucks. It is big, too heavy, driving is horrible because of bad gearbox. I mean, everyone is crying "the king is back!". What king? Ziks 605 is still better, both Taygas are better. Even Azov 7 and Paystar are better. Even from the point of interesting gameplay, I myself would prefer Voron Grad or Dan or some tractor. So, why everybody is so exited? Why nobody just tell the truth, that 612H is just another garbage truck. It is exactly the same reason why P16 sucks climbing uphill - bug in differential lock. Looks like the game doesn't lock the differential properly in some conditions (low speed, high weight, high grip and resistance). It actually happens with all the trucks, with both automatic and manual differential locks. Yes, even manual differential lock doesn't fully lock the wheels in some conditions. Somehow under high pressure one of the wheels get stuck and the rest are just bleeding power digging the truck into the mud even on hard surfaces. It just less visible with other lighter trucks, but it actually exist for all the trucks. I hope the DEVs can fix it, since it looks like the bug is too deep in the game code and messing with it will affect all trucks in the game.
