Too Busy? Not in the pocket? Sound issues? WHAT??? This is a technical master showing us POSSIBILITIES and what can be accomplished if you're in the best of the best league. From a technical drumming perspective, he is kickin' the crap out of this cool track, those beautiful Pearl Masterworks and those sweet Zildjian K's, while maintaining master speed control, sounding great and remaining within the tempo of the track. I grew up on playing less is more and in the pocket grooves, however, this application calls for just what this Demo objective is; "Marketing expensive K's with master talent and Showmanship". Dennis Chambers is one of the best master class drummers of all time!!! Anyone who sent negative comments is over critical... I highly doubt any of them could play close to how Dennis did here or on any of his gigs with legends, especially at his age of 58 years old. AMAZING technique from a MASTER ! If you want to see how it's done live, he's currently touring with Stern, Kennedy, Brecker Group! World class artists show not to miss......!!!

There was another video on youtube from a clinic he made even before he got sick with this same song, like five years ago i think, and he plays it the same way he does it on this video and for me it sounds brutal; i understand those cats saying that is not groovy but its just another type of playing and in some parts he shows a perfect working groove for the song but is just the way he decide to express himself on this and you only have to open your mind and triyng to see what this legend is making with this song and learn from him, he obiusly knows that is not his most groovy thing etc etc.. but that part of his style is what has made him a legend too, not only the groovy things; i think that what this video represents is that the power and style of Mr. Dennis Chambers is back!!! I'm very happy to see this :)

Personality I like the sound of these k's but my problem is they only come in one weight witch is thin to paper thin. I like to play more aggressive music not thing to brash or punk but paper thin just won't do. I'd love to see a medium thin to thin versions out there someday.

F**K IT! Zildjian should just ship out the 13.25"K Custom Hybrid with the two bottom cymbals like Dennis here has them configured. They sound so crisp and defind. Also can be played light. I wonder how they would do in a rock setting maybe thats where the 14.25" comes in. I bet that would sound amazing. 🤤
@Assimilator702
@Assimilator702 4 жыл бұрын
14" K Custom Hybrid Hihats are very versatile and cut well even when competing with 2 full Marshall stacks in a Metal setting. Probably the best do it all Hihats ever. I'm about to try the Hybrid bottom as a TOP with my Rock Beat Bottom. That should do the trick. If Zildjian could do a Heavy version of the Hybrid Hihats that would be a nice addition to the lineup.

It's an artist spotlight, so it's really supposed to be somewhat of a solo, that's why it's busy. And its just the style of music, all the cuts are so clean and on time even though they're pretty fast, he's in the tightest possible pocket I'd say. Not to mention my favorite little drum lick at 0:22 that he kept repeating... so good

While I agree this is way too busy and not as tasteful as we're used to seeing from Mr. Chambers, you all have to realize that the man was sick for a while, and now that he's healthy again he's got a lust for life, and it shows in his playing. From what I've read, his peers all say he's as good as he's ever been, which you can obviously tell from the video. I'm just happy to see him healthy again and back in full form. Let him enjoy himself!

I had no idea the man was in poor health! I don't know when and from what? Is there anyone who can clue me into when and what the man was suffering from? I could not tell that the man had been sick with anything before this video. He looks and sounds as good as ever, as in all the other videos I've seen him in. Anyway, I'm glad that he's here and still inspiring old, mid-range, and the young as he always has!

You know your kit, when you can play a song as complex and busy as that with your eyes closed the entire time! That's what it looked like to me, when they cut to the frontal footage of him. And it looks like he's using a combination of the Moeller technique and his own technique when he was teaching himself how to play drums. I noticed his left hand rolling over and an extension of the index finger like that in the Moeller when his right hand was on the other side of his kit. When he was on his hats his left hand seamed flat to slightly turned over to utilize his fingers for ghosting and a slight, ever so slight wrist movement to slap the hoop and head. I do that only I have about 6 or more inches of space between my hi-hats and my snare head. I honestly don't know how he's able to get such a fat sound out of that snare with such little movement of his left hand. Amazing! And I say a like...hybrid of the Moeller technique from watching JoJo Mayer's video on the subject; for both traditional grip and the modern day match grip. It truly is a fascinating technique if you take the time and dedicate yourself to perfecting it like JoJo has, and of course the inventor/creator of the technique.
