Zildjian recently reintroduced the Z Custom cymbals to their lineup. These were some of the brand’s most popular cymbals in the early 2000s. They went out of production for a while, but Zildjian has brought them back with some refreshed sounds and features.
In this review, I test out some of the options in the modern Z Custom line, including the 14" Zildjian Z Custom Hi Hats, 17" and 19" Z Custom Crashes, and the powerful 21" Z Custom Mega Bell Ride.
I'm super impressed with these cymbals. They are bright and powerful, making them the perfect option for heavy drummers. I also think the hi hats and crashes are versatile enough to be used in a wide range of modern music styles too.

Picked up an 18" crash. It has a slight trashy sound with an explosive attack with medium decay! Love it!

I have 16, 17, 18, 19 crash. Great cymbals with big bells. I especially love the 16 because it's bright, flashy.

Thanks for making this! I'm big on the A Customs, but I also do a lot of crash riding. I seem to go through one every nine months or so. I think I'll be trying one of these next go around.

You forgot to mention that they’re also lathed now unlike the previous Zs. And the star hammer pattern wasn’t an update. That was used on those old crappy Z Power Smashes.

Don’t be too quick to put down the old Zs, my z hats are beautiful, a recording studio guy told me they sounded better than anything he had recorded, brilliant we’re his words easy to mix. My 20 ride is loud and aggressive and slices through, can be a little pingy, my 16 crash is trashy and loud, for a punch, I mix mine with A Customs so I get the best of both worlds.

Thanks for sharing! I've only had some limited experience with the old Z customs but the hats were always nice. Especially making hybrid pairs with Z/Ks
