I’ve been hatching brine shrimp for over 40 years in a glass pickle jar. To collect the BBS, remove the air and let the BBS settle for a few minutes. Siphon them out using a piece of air line. Absolutely no reason to spend that kind of money on another KZfaq hyped product. 1/2 gal pickle jar at Sams Club, $3.54. The pickles are a bonus 😉👍 As far as BBS eggs, Brine Shrimp Direct 90% hatch eggs (16 oz can) is a significantly better value (per ounce) when compared to “other” BBS eggs. +1for storing them in a freezer.

I agree. I don't see spending 50 bucks on a plastic jug when the rest is bad. I get my eggs from the same place as Bentley too. They are cheap and have a good etsy shop.

Like you, I have been raising fish and hatching brine shrimp for over 40 years. I use two - 2 liter soda bottle. When harvesting, I just take the airline out and aim a small LED light towards the bottom. 8-10 minutes later, I use an airline hose attached to a rigid plastic straw to drain the BBS. I have been using Brine Shrimp Direct and find this product a great value. I remember paying $7.50 for a pound of brine shrimp eggs. The cost of 2 Ziss brine shrimp blender is roughly the cost of 2 cans of Brine Shrimp Direct 90% hatch eggs. I will keep my money.

I run one almost every day. You can gently heat and bend the hard tube to get the outlet centered or use the softer airline tubing as mentioned. I need a heater because I don't heat the house much and if I do, not to a tempterature near high enough. I had to look around and it took some trial and error with heaters I have, but I found the Fluval 50 watt works great (the problem with many is because of the design the minimum water line on the heater isn't close enough to the liquid). I put the airline outlet right next to the heater so there is plenty of flow over the heater. In addition to the salt, I add a pinch (1/4 teaspoon-ish/2 liters?) of baking soda. Ya, the stand sux. Cory just posted a video for a simple diy pvc stand that I'll probably have a go at. The blender works great. No fuss. No muss. Great hatch rates. I haven't had the problem of eggs collecting in corners. They will collect at the top if you overfill it. To me, it isn't cheap but given the quality, it is a good value. Well worth it if you are in the hobby for the long run. Fish big and small are loving the live food. My brichardi spawned not long after I got the blender so the timing was perfect. Algorithm now triggered... No, I'm not sponsored.

Hi, I needed a heater for my Hatcher and I used a nano heater, these things are very small and fit through the hole at the top. It’s a 10 watt that is set to 25 degrees so no adjustment needed, it’s got 2 suckers on it so I stuck it to the side, keeps a constant temperature and only 10watts so costs virtually nothing to run ?

I currently use 1.5 litre water bottles which cost nothing. I run an airline into it with an airstone and when I need to harvest I just run a piece of airline tubing into a plastic container. Would I consider purchasing this product as it stands? - Well it undoubtedly looks better than my home made system, I can't deny that but is it worth spending $50 dollars just for aesthetics? I don't think so. What are you actually getting for your money? A plastic container with a lid, a stand which is unusable and a valve which is really awkward to reach. Is that worth the money? - I don't think so.

I have one, like it. Yes, about $10 to expensive but sturdy.Find attaching the plastic straw to a bit of air tubing at the top very helpful to getting best agitation by getting the end of the straw to the very bottom. I use a 25 watt heater in the top that I got given to me with some free 10 gal tanks. All in all it works great, has a sturdy feel to work with and don't miss the floppy soda bottles. I have 2 of these and agree it is a little expensive, with that being said, its ease of you I feel helps offsets some of the cost. I run airline out of the drain. My method is, I hang the blender and the stand when I'm ready to collect the LBB, and the only time I remove the blender from the stand is to clean it after draining. The airline extended from the drain gives all the room I need to turn the knob from the bottom and start draining the LBB into a container.

Yep, do agree with all the cons you cited, but I do like the durability. I dropped the glass thermometer and broke it in day one, though. The co op black tubing fits nicely through the spout for extra air agitation, but I still think the shape is less than optimal. Would it have cost more to manufacture a cone with the same handle and spout?

I just pick up whole thing as it sits in the holder/stand and open nozzle and set it AND stand over a pitcher to drain...so stand height doesn't matter. Also my water needs a tiny pinch of baking soda for buffering ( I have 0 kh) and I have a lamp with incandescent bulb to keep it warm.

Have you thought about trying to run air through the bottom of the hatchery? I know your gonna have quite the amount of head pressure but enough air should take care of that. Also about the fairly stiff air line try to put it in hot water and it should soften up enough to fit over the attachment point. I don’t have it yet but I’m planning to get it soon.

I just bought a gallon plastic jug of pork rinds from Walmart, put a $1 car wash sponge in the bottom and wedged in a soda bottle. DIY’d air line tube through the pop bottle cap with silicone and hooked it up to my air pump and I was ready to go. $15 max in construction and satisfaction of creating something on my own, plus it’s easily disassembled for cleaning. Can’t beat the smooth sides of the pop bottle for keeping the cysts from sticking to the side. I love Ziss products but I can spend that money in other places in my fishroom.

Subscribed and liked. Next, let me say I like Aquarium Co-op but... I've bought from them three maybe four times. I've had as many as 7 tanks, currently sitting at 6. I like rainbowfish and currently have Zig Zag and Dwarf Neon rainbows. I've raised many a rainbow, and regular brine shrimp increases the success/growth rate a lot over fry powder foods. I have three brine shrimp hatcheries, all purchased for ~$15. All three are half size compared to Co-op product. The first was great, and sufficient for the day available. Hence the need for another hatchery as I'm left without during the setup. The other two hatcheries I have are terrible and should be thrown away. I wanted to buy the first again, but no longer available via Amazon and shipping was like $30 so... not happening. I've almost bought the hatchery shown from Co-op recently (and I actually did make an order where Xtreme food was overpriced on Amazon). However, this isn't the first negative review on the stand I've seen, and I don't want to DIY. I don't want to pay $45 for the hatchery and I certainly don't want to add $7 shipping. There are many great products at the Co-op like the USB air pumps, nano sponge filters, pink crypts, etc. but all too often one or more things are sold out and I can't reach $100 and/or $45 is just $5 too much for me that day ($52 is usually $12 too much). Anyway, that's my thought on it. If I knew I'd be 100% happy with the product I'd shell it out, but 85% happy with the product and 100% unhappy with my pocketbook just hasn't added up for me yet.

I have come the same conclusions you have regarding this hatcher. I have to say, I do have ridiculously small "little kid hands," so accessing the hatched shrimp is easier for me. I have found that stuffing silicone airline tubing with a shut-off valve, into the rigid exit tube makes it easier to collect the shrimp. It seems to fit just snug enough that there is no leaking, but it is still easy to remove for cleaning as needed. One caveat, here; I can't guarantee this will work for everyone without leaking, but so far, so good, for me, but it's only been in use a few days. The traditional tubing may not work as well. As far as the shortcomings of this product, I think many quality aquarium products out there some have aspect about them we would like to change. I couldn't agree more about the benefit of the thick plastic blender. I dropped a full blender full of beautiful newly hatched baby brine all over my tile floor. The mess was as you would expect, but not a crack or scratch on the container. If you are a casual hobbyist, with few aquariums, the soda bottle setup, where you screw the bottle into a platform works well. But, I was bitten by the "aquarium bug" almost 50 years ago. Now that I am recently retired, I have increased my fish breeding activities. For me, this hatcher works very well for me.

I know, amazing. No guarantee it won't crack, but still. I know cheaper hatching systems work as well, but I am also in a situation where I want my work area to look a certain way. Just shows you there are many ways to be successful in this hobby, some cheap, some more expensive. For me, I wanted something that would last a long time, being on a relatively fixed income. A jar full of guppies given to me by my childhood best friend's brother got me started. I will probably end my fish keeping with guppies, too!

Hard to beat the quantities you can get with this...but the unhatched eggs in the bottom are a real drag. I freeze mine after rinsing them and the first few times I did this my ice cubes were half cysts. I am doing my next batch with Corey's eggs, we'll see. Anyone else freeze theirs? It's so convenient, a huge batch is like a week of feedings for me that way.

I can't find the kind I used before but this style is all over ebay: www.ebay.com/itm/233674572443 Looks simple a do might do the trick well. Hi Bentley I will stick with my cheat soda bottle brime shrimp hatchery all day long. When I saw you try and reach under the hatchery and couldn't reach the valve, that was a big turn off . Plus when I buy something I want it to work, I don't want to add anything to it. I want to take it out of the box turn it on and it does it jod. If I have to make a pvc type of handle or use a 2×4 and nail it to the wall. Just so I can get my hand under it , that a joke. And the best one they make a fancy top for heater and thermometer. But they can't line up the air port so it reaches to the center of the bottom. YOU have to get a flexible tubing and attach it to one end and then it will slide to the center. What happened if Pops off when you're not there, there goes your whole batch of brine shrimp. Not thanks if I got to do all that, I will just make my own. Poor design!!! And not user friendly !!! I know Bentley you couldn't say it was a total waste of money. But I can . #fallriverfishguy
