Excellent walk through of the inspection on the S-Series Zeth. Got to say things have changed a lot. Last time I worked on a combine was 1979 and old Clayton 135 (Pre New Holland Days) with a massive 10' header lol.

Take note the upper cleaning fan sheaves as the outer slides in and out the 3 drive lugs usually batter the holes out of the inner sheave , then what happens is the speed will slow down ok but not increase due to the steps created in the inner sheave. I am also seeing a lot of upper rear tail boards that bolt to the chaffer frame that hold the loss sensors starting to crack and fall off. Great work keep the vids coming.

This is just great, you doing videos like this. Guys at your shop can tell you what to look for but their method isn’t always right. Skip over shit or assume things. The whole point of inspections is to find and fix things before they do more damage. If your not looking and miss something, you just cost the customer more money fixing it out in the field when it was just in the shop. Appreciate you making this video.

I just recently started about 5 months ago as an apprentice Ag tech at a John Deere dealer. We have a combine doctor at the dealership. He knows them inside and out. They give us 16hrs to do a full inspection. He pulls the sieves and Chaffer to check the frame and he pulls concaves as well. Very awesome video though!
@ZKMasterTech
@ZKMasterTech 3 жыл бұрын
We only get 9 hrs to inspect the combine including drive time so there's not enough time to pull all that. I can use my bore scope or crawl up in the chaffer to check the common areas where they crack.

Never seen the shoe auger bull head crack like that definitely something to look out for. Things I’ve seen are the primary countershaft gear case bushings worn. Main engine gear case mounting brackets cracked out. And on class 8 and 9 machines the front engine bracket cracked.

@DentsideAddict84 3 жыл бұрын
I've seen a few front bulkheads cracked. It's an ugly job. Another thing known for cracking is the engine accessory bracket. They're gusseted but the crack anyway and the updated version doesnt have a gusset.

Your videos have all been awesome. I have a 2015 S670 with the 5 speed feeder house, there appears to be a leak on the big gearbox right behind the cab, and I can not seem to find where it is coming from. Is there something common that could be leaking?
@ZKMasterTech

It’s usually the input or output shaft seal. There are also hoses that can leak as well.

The root cause is the run out on the driveshaft causes the bearing mounting plate to flex back and forth until it cracks along the weld.

It's mind-boggling how many belts and chains the engineers fit into a single combine! And somehow it all works together, haha. What would be a typical annual investment for maintenance and parts to keep a combine in good condition? Of course as a rough average, since things naturally wear more in later years than in the first few.
@ZKMasterTech
@ZKMasterTech 2 жыл бұрын
I would say $3k-$10k if you had it inspected every year.
