i ran 11.5 with just intake 2.55 upper pulley and drag radials on mine with an automatic transmission

Went to 510 Engineerings site and the 800hp upgrade for the ZL1 is $15,000 for only 692 wheel hp. With $15,000 I'd go to Hennessey or do it myself before Id spend that much for just 692 whp

You hit that right on the head! I am NOT a ford fan by any means but the ZL1's and ZR1's are specifically designed for top-performance cornering capabilities. They are used in many different road course series', just to name two off the top Continental Tire Challenge (ZL1) and Rolex Racing Series (ZR1). Their times on the tracks are fenominal! With a ZR1 at Laguna Seca you can have the same times as a 500k car for about 1 1/2k. These aren't built for straights...can't resist sometimes tho :)

07 gt convertible 4000lbs with me driving, 26" e/t streets ,stock motor, w/ cams, whipple at 11 lbs. wayyyy detuned @ 11.2 afr commanded. built suspension and chassis. just ran 11.19 last weekend

for a 54k stock zl1 and a 11second 1/4 time, you would think that supercharger upgrade would bring it to at least 10?

I love mine and I have no Visibility issues.....GM did Great with this car .......took on the Nürburgring nicely very good time......it shows the engineering put into this .......

I'm no Chevy guy, but the ZL1 was "babied" off the line and the near 129mph speed speaks volumes about the HP it's truly making.

ya this was when mods were new.... they didn't put boost up as much as they could, they didn't change tires... wheels to a drag spec cause with that power which should be way more it would make a big difference. def 9 second car with 730ish whp. I spent 6k into my zl1 and made 823whp and its still Bolton and ported. no spray and I hit 9.5 on track

gt500 nurburging times are in and its 4 sec behind the crapmaro, camaro is going alpha platform soon since the zeta platform is too heavy should be around 3400 ibs, 2014 z28 will be released the ss will recieve the ls7 z06 motor 505 hp to compete with the hemi 392 challenger srt8 which is destroying both 5.0 and SS. These guys are stepping it up!!

Im not referring to the gt500 vs zl1 battle man, im speaking in general for all of gm's muscle cars... I know most of chevrolet's engines are lighter than ford's in each class, thats the beauty of pushrod power compared to overhead cams lol I watched the video you recommended... and i must say I can't help but imagine if that 4250lb beast went on a healthy diet what it would then run??? NIce recommendation, thanks.

When talking about drag racing, an automatic is the way to go. You'll hook up better from the holeshot, you'll never miss a shift, and 9 times out of 10 the automatic will shift faster. All that being said, all I buy is manual cars because I love road racing. Also, the overall control you can achieve from a manual transmission.

I would have to agree. It didn't come off the line strong, makes me wonder if they had traction control set to the highest level, because it didn't even squeak the tires. I'd like to also mention to the trash talkers that this car isn't set up to drag race, the video is entirely about the motor, nothing in there about suspension setup for the 1/4 mile, so 11's is pretty good all things considered.

one of the thing that makes the Shelby mustang gt500 the best is it has its own power train, its not some mutant like the zl1 is (its a cts v with a camaro body)

Yep, for one dyno pull if that! Up the displacement, forge the entire bottom end, and shoot plenty of methanol and the engine usually survives at 1000 rwhp..

392 Hemi Challenger is look it up and research it is a beast! Im not a dodge guy I own two vettes and a Camaro with an ls6 swap ad I give then new 392Hemi respect!

personally i would opt for SLP's stage 3 kit, as SLP and GM have been partners since the 90's. that's just me though.

street tires and i do believe the traction control an stability control was on it didnt start puttin the power down till half track so slicks and use the launch control so 10s would be no problem

His reaction time, and limited traction= 11.4. That car is good for 10's with a better reaction launch and stickier tires.

Ya that would be called shift time and it's an auto. Reaction time is the time it takes him to leave the line once it turns green. You could sit there for a second or two and get the same ET time as if you had a .001 reaction time. Like the other guy said go back to your civic you bench racer

That's one of those things most people never measure. 60ft? Now, that's a different story. Personally, I like to see street cars in full street form (daily tires, daily weight, daily fuel, etc) go down the 1/4, so 2 thumbs up for that video.

Don't forget, this is with street tires, thus the slow start, likely intentional to prevent wheel spin. My car, chich has similar weight and 200hp less, at the same track, would just sit and spin on an aggressive launch on street tires.

from the fact that i outrun stock 2011 GT Mustangs -412hp- in my 1992 Buick Roadmaster -190hp- (from a dead stop) and its also stock i seriously doubt it, plus if we are talking about comp cars, how about the new COPO Camaro, or the DragPak Challenger, a damn V10

There is a Camaro SS (street legal car) running mid 8's soon to be low 8's maybe high 7's on independent rear suspension and it weighs 4150 lbs. I'd say that is a hell of a car. Nothing that weighs that much is running anything close to that time, and the owner has put NO money into saving weight, it has a full interior full roll cage. With fibre glass/Carbon fiber panels and an interior trim up the car could weigh the same as any other stripped car.

I road race my car with a built 4L65E all the time. Then again its built to where I can manually shift and hold a gear at any rpm.

It's funny mustang owners are oblivious to the fact that the recent camaro's have handled better and looked better than mustangs. 2015 camaro is almost completely redesigned

Rated at Crank Horsepower. On a engine dyno it would produce 800hp but with drivetrain loss its 692rwhp.

i know what you mean man but there are so many more people who would take the camaro to the drag strip instead of taking one to a track ya know... and honeslty IMO i don't think there will be a day when the v8 cars disappear... they make as good if not better gas mileage than alot of 4 cylinders and v6 cars back in the day with the way technology is going, just my 2-bits

I for one am glad the mustang will finally have IRS, it is not that much heavier than a live rear axle and by 2015/2016 both the Camaro and Mustang will have it lightened quite a bit (not just the IRS but the cars also). Most of these cars will not see the drag strip or a road course, Most of them are just daily driven and for that IRS is far better to live with on a daily basis. A solid rear axle is only good for somebody who is going to die hard drag race their car, not worth it otherwise.
