Well, you scared me. Having flown a wing wing z84 for a few weeks I bought the alpha strike. Yesterday morning it arrived....and then I watched this video. Built it yesterday afternoon and took it to the field expecting to crash on first flight. Only used 3s and god it is fast. Flew twice and it survived. I have aged a decade. Thanks for the tips. Well that went in an unfamiliar direction than normal. Fun to watch fly, crazy fast for the liking of my old slow reactions. I did enjoy the looks of the braking effects. I personally would want it on 3S. Unbelievable selling price for the quality involved. Totally adorable. Sorry to see the end result of the maiden flight. But it does happen. Another awesome video. Okay, i am glad your crash was a careless error not doing a preflight servo check...i have had planes with even worse damage and more pieces than that..some i glued back together and they looked great with some light body work and paint...and flew exactly the same...my foamy repair skills are pretty much top notch..after 10 years and over 100 repairs you really figure out the best methods...whats great about your crash is the wings were not damaged...easy to fix imo...
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 10 ай бұрын
yeah, fixing foam is one of the best parts of foamies, but people still bash them as though it's a negative quality. I love the fact you can fix them for next to nothing, in many cases...sometimes, of course, we need parts, but it's still a lot easier than doing a repair on a balsa wood plane

Analog VTX at 1.3ghz, 4S 000mah Li-ion, TBS CRSF or ELRS, a nice cam, 7.4 folding prop, 50a esc, T-Motor F80 with a nice ground station and automatic antenna tracker and go fly some nice long range. Short range, swap out to DJI FPV air unit or TBS Unify 5.8ghz HV, 4S 3200mah lipo, F80 motor, 50a esc and 7x4 folding prop, and then slap either the FPV COMBAT or ZTAG unit in it and get a friend to do the same. That's how to enjoy this wing. 😃 That's just my opinion of course. Enjoy it the way you see fit. 😃

OK, so i got the ZOHD Alpha Strike, yours lasted two more flights than mine. Maiden flight it went into an uncontrollable up and down and flew out of site. I painted the top safety orange and that's the only way i could see it as far as i did. Who knows where it ended up. I have been flying RC planes and heli's for over 35 years and never had this happen. No more of these for me. I have an Extreme Flight Outlaw from 10 years ago. It is the ultimate speed rush! No stabilization and flies like on rails.

Hi Brian great video as usual. So did you ever figure out the gyro settings an what they do? I just ordered the same setup and would like to know before starting when it gets here. I have flown with the eagle tree 2d 3d stablizer before and it has 3d mode, off, and self level. 3d mode works great on delta wings for launch just angel the plane in the direction you want it to go and flip the switch and it will hold that attitude till you move the stick. Just want to know if the NX3 works the same. Thanks

Waiting to maiden mine. Really like the way you launch it. I usually use a side toss on similar planes, where you hold the plane by the wingtip with the plane on it's side. The torque levels it out, rather then starting level and then going on it's side. AND gets the prop away from your hand. Side note-please don't take a damaged battery into your home, even for a moment! I was waiting for that thing to blow... Thanks for the great videos. What camera are you using? The quality and focus holding are awesome.
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 2 жыл бұрын
That battery was taken out and shot after we were done taking footage. I know exactly what I was risking and have experience with these packs. I have intentionally burned them, shot them, pierced them, tested the way they puff before blowing up...I'm well versed in the way they fail (to the point of fast burning fire, and or smoke bomb). As for this plane, wish I got some more time with it, but such is life with crappy rx'es ;(

I think I've watched 5 videos on this thing, and every one of them ended in some kind of wreck. You flew it longer than anyone else. Most people launch it horizontally and torque roll it right into the ground, some of the flights are literally 10 seconds.

Yep, so many failed maidens lol. It needs speed to fly at its best, gets small so fast and is also difficult to tell orientation... which really makes it best suited for fpv.

It definitely gets small super quick and the worst plane ever fir orientation. I'm going to put an fpv kit on mine when I get round to it.

Brian is a very good pilot...many experienced guys have zero experience with fast prop jet deltas...those are the guys who crashed...Brians crash was just an electronic issue of some kind,not pilot flying error or poor plane design..these are not for everyone,but they certainly are a lot of fun for many of us..😊

Yeah l agree with the above. A lot of people have noexperience on a model like this. If you launch it level half throttle is enough for it to head out with no torque roll if you give it full it will roll so don’t give it full😮 lm used to funjets radjet , other small fast stuff LOS only that’s where you learn to handle stuff like this. I like it a lot bit of colour under the wings no problem seeing it so long as you don’t take your eyes off it😮

Could be even faster if you taped over the intake vents and mounted the esc on top of the fuse instead... but after watching that, I really don't think it needs to be any faster, looks a real handful! An even lighter build with a quad motor, esc with the battery in the rear bay would be interesting to try... I might do just that with mine.
@BrianPhillipsRC

CG would be way tail heavy with lipo in the back, but you can swap gear all over the place with this thing.
@paulhope3401
@paulhope3401 2 жыл бұрын
@@BrianPhillipsRC Yeah, I was thinking that after I posted the reply. Maybe have to hollow out the centre foam section for the lipo if I went with a lighter motor, I think that might be the way forward. Great flying btw and it looked sooo much better with the CG more rearward... and although binned that was still quite something to see.. and a great video. Thanks again. :)

Personally ..It looks good, but I feel it needs more wing area .. add +6" on both sides.. that would improve its slow speed and landings and also reduce the initial torque roll on take off.. that body shape is great, with plenty of room for your gear.. perhaps too fast for FPV as it is..

These jets should not be flown with stabilizers. Just use 50/60 percent throw on ailerons and 40 percent expo. Use 80-100 percent throw on elevator and 40 percent expo. You don't need the stabilizer. I've flown way more sensitive jets like the hobbyking parkjet and they do fine without any gyro/stabilizers.

One would have to assume poor elevator authority with the propeller behind the control surface.
@BrianPhillipsRC
@BrianPhillipsRC 2 жыл бұрын
I thought the control authority was more a function of being a bit too nose heavy as the CG marks suggested. I think a bit more tail heavy did help quite a bit.
@iforce2d
@iforce2d 2 жыл бұрын
@@BrianPhillipsRC I think the chord of the control surface as a percentage of the total chord is important too. I made a scratch-build plane with similar ratios to this and it was extremely uncontrollable at slow speed no matter where the CG was. It doesn't matter for roll so much but for pitch, a wing with a deep chord and small surface mostly wants to maintain the current pitch. A low aspect ratio seems to make this even more so. At high speed the angle of attack is lower and air is following the upper surface of the wing better, so upward deflections of the elevons have more effect. Just my armchair aerodynamicist opinion :)

Based on all the video’s that you’ve made so far, I’m guessing that the crash was due to something electronic. Maby that stabilizer. Not your flying skills. I also noticed that you had your receiver antennas sitting right on that carbon fiber rod. Great video though. I have one of these on the way right now in the mail. Camera crew got a good workout with that little screamer.
