Of course! But recording and public performance are two different things, no performance adrenaline to give it the extra edge, so yes, lots of takes. Not to mention the thousands of times he practiced.

I love this piece because I feel as though I can always come back to listen and I always get something new from it. I remember first listening to it and hearing a jumble of discordant notes, but later came to realize this is such a deep piece.

I just listened to this for the first time, and I can't believe what I've just heard. As a cellist myself, some of the things he did defy the standards of cello playing and I loved and soaked in every second of it. Extremely skilled and well performed!

Amazing! This is one of the hardest pieces in the cello repertoire, but you make it look so easy! Truly wonderful, and you're probably the only that can play it this well at this crazy tempo. Nevertheless, it sounds great.

WHY IS THIS NOT MORE PUBLICIZED!! THIS IS BY FAR ONE OF THE MOST ASTOUNDING PERFORMANCES I’VE EVER SEEN! It was amazing, but you shouldn’t be in a recording studio. I"ve worked on both. I'm a better cellist than guitarist. Eruption I learned in an afternoon. I'm still hammering out the first movement of this and I had a quarantine on my side. This has Dvorak and Tchaikovski technically.

As of today (Jan 1st, 2018), the sheet music for this is now in the public domain in Canada. :) Early editions were from before 1923, so they're public domain in the U.S., too. Still 20 years before it's public domain in the E.U., though.

Kodaly was a dear friend of bartok , they travelled around the cities and villages in hungary and collect old folk melodies, you can simply hear the reflection in all of his pieces :)

No, the tempo of this piece is shown as the quarters as 160, so you have to play it as fast as this. But normally it‘s very hard to play it so beautiful and fast.
