Today we take a look at the Diphos by Zombie Tools. This sword is very different from the historical pieces we usually review. Built for a different purpose and targeting a completely different audience. Does this over built post-apocalyptic beast of a sword justify its $769.95 price tag? We'll let ya know in our official review.

I had a Diphos once. But then I gave it to my brother for his birthday. I still have more than enough Zombies Tools lying around that I can pull out whenever I want to.

I got the Spit many years ago. But then I got the Diphos with satin finish and brown leather, I love it so much. I saw a youtuber review from a few years ago with it set up like that and it just screamed "Conan" and I had to have it. Which then made me get the Sharkalope, the Rat Bastard, the Scyllis, the Kraken, and one of the katanas. I've cut myself off now from get anything else because my wallet is crying some.

The finish may not be your thing, thats fine. We all have preferences. But I think the finish is VERY well done and absolutely gorgeously executed. Also this may be two handed, but can easily wield one handed. Also also, historically accuracy means very little. Why does it matter? Are you actually going into a sword fight? No. Its very light, and swings so easily. It feels well balanced and just awesome overall. Not sure why history matters when it doesn't really apply any more. Especially since we have better steel these days, so thats not historically accurate.

First off, thanks for watching. I agree the finish is very well done. It's just about aesthetics for me. I hear your points about this feeling light , and your question about why history matters, and I'd like to respond to both of them. Historical design matters to me not because I'm some kind of fussy purist, but because historical designs work. They evolve over time based on the stresses of actual heavy use with life and death on the line. That definitely translates into use in modern times, even if all you are doing is backyard cutting. As to this feeling light, I want to ask you if you have ever handled a high end arming sword or longsword? I ask that not to be a gatekeeper or a jerk, but only because until I learned what a well made sword with good distal taper and blade harmonics felt like, I might have agreed with you about the Diphos feeling lively. All that aside, I appreciate your watching. Enjoy the sharp things you like and have fun!

@@UnsheathedSwordReviews I agree with you on why we see designs come back from history. They worked and those people lived to make more of that item and improve on it potentially. Also you were polite. That is also nice to see.

I like my diphos, it's trusty, like a 1911a1 or an avtomat Kalashnikov. I'm a big guy who had a thing for broadswords and great swords as a younger man, I began to favor the gladius for CQB, and the diphos filled the niche between the two types of long blade and fighting forms. Maybe it just works for me, maybe it just makes me feel like Conan the barbarian when I'm carrying it, either way... I like my diphos.

Yeah. Zombie Tools is expensive. I did buy the D'Capitan sabre and the Sharkalope short sword because I really like their look, but I really had to think long and hard before I committed to spending that money.

I enjoy the heck out of this video and I agree with everything said in there. It's not really a sword, but a weapon inspired by a sword (like their other products). As a weapon for the most part it's an inferior one than almost all historical swords. It doesn't perform better in cutting and thrusting (although still very decent) than swords, and when push comes to shove, it's not really more durable than swords (Matthew Jensen reviewed a ZT Wakasushi and it took as much punishment as an average sword--not even a durable one--before it broke). However, I love how it looks and how it's constructed. It can be pretty durable if used in certain ways. It's clearly a superior weapon against zombies who don't really fight back except for trying to grab and bite you. It's a superior weapon against most post-apocalyptical improvised weapons like golf clubs, baseball clubs and small knives. A fan of ZT will love it, but it does not stand up to any sort of standard that applies to actual swords.

Strongly agree, if I were on the run from zombies I'd be happy to have this at my side. So in that sense I suppose it does what it sets out to do. Fans of ZT will definitely like it, it's just not for me. Though I'm glad I got to try it out and review it. As always sir thank you for watching and commenting!

@@SmartAss4123 Matthew Jensen did his destructive tests on a Zombie Tools wakasushi (a short sword mildly inspired by wakizashi), and even though it's extraordinarily heavy for its size, it broke faster than many properly made historical swords that are longer and weigh a fraction of its weight.

Cool, but for a sword with a grip that is meant to held in both hands, I would give it six or seven more inches of length on the blade, more distal taper, just to get into that nifty bastard/ longsword range. That or just make it a one handed piece with a significantly lightened blade.
@UnsheathedSwordReviews
@UnsheathedSwordReviews 9 ай бұрын
That was our take as well. Thanks for watching!
@jaredleicht1656

The idea behind its length is that you can't swing a longer sword indoors at Zombies without hitting the ceiling or walls. The thickness of the blade makes it heavy requiring two hands which is why it's not a one handed sword. A historical sword is only good in a sword fight. It would bend, break or chip in an end of the world apocalypse situation.
@UnsheathedSwordReviews
@UnsheathedSwordReviews 8 ай бұрын
In actuality, that's not the case. At least for the ZT Waki. Matthew Jensen did a destructive test comparison between the ZT, and it broke after less punishment than standard Wakis. Your point about two hands being needed given the weight is spot on. But alas that puts you right in grabbing distance. Vic said above he'd take this in a zombie situation, but I heartily disagree. There are tons of swords I'd pick first. That said though, I would definitely take this over a baseball bat. -Jon Thanks for watching!

@@UnsheathedSwordReviewsI have watched this video many times and all I see is the master sword from Zelda, would you say this sword would be functional with a shield?
