@Monkeywe7 жыл бұрын
what I love about the modern zombie concept isn't the "murder with no guilt" concept you see in more arcade like zombie games (although some may be fun) but the either survival enfasis or the fear of human desperation, the horror doesn't come from the zombies itself but from your fellow man and the thought of surviving another day in a world with no empathy.

flood are not zombies, they are a parasite that takes over a host and connect to a hivemind. the victim is still alive and conscious even after infection but is unable to control their body, only sit and think to themselves as they watch the infection form control them. Depending on the host's experiences, the flood will access their memories over time and can learn different things like using a weapon or vehicle, but the process will leave the victim brain dead and the infection form must find a new organism to infect.

I did a project on the book Warm Bodies, and during my entire presentation the class and judges just looked at me strangely due to the simple nature of the story. The assignment asked us to break down the actual goings on of the story and not the nuance. Afterward I spoke with a judge because I was kinda nervous about how well I did, and brought up why I like zombie stories. It's not the actual creatures that are fascinating, but the moral dilemma they present. When stripped of laws and put into a world where your only goal is to survive, what do you do? Would you still be what many consider a good person? What psychological effects would this type of apocalypse have? I also explained the other parts of what makes WB a good book. The great dialogue, pacing, and characterization are all key to the story. After my explanation, she told me I was one of the smartest teenagers she's ever met. Story time ending, those things are what makes zombie movies good. In terms of gameplay the concept of zombies is a perfect fit. You can mold them to horror OR just kill them in droves. An enemy that you have basically an infinite amount of which you can fight? Beautiful. Or you can go the Walking Dead route and see the moral issues of the apocalypse. Resident Evil like games go for horror. Breaking down how popular culture works is a favorite pastime for me, if you couldn't tell. Thank you for reading, I don't know how to end this comment well.

old films have a really great quality (some old cameras could have "resolutions" higher than digital cameras), the reason why sport footage looked horribly is because they were broadcasted with analog signal to television, and at that time bandwith and signal loss were a serious concern. I like how you said Halo: Combat Evolved when you were talking about Zombies Expiring again when Halo has the Flood, a fungal parasite that turns any flesh and tissue as a way to grow and zombies (combat forms) running at you bringing down your shields than infecting you with an infection form

The word zombi comes from Haiti and African culture: but the living dead concept can be traced back to at the least as early as the Epic of Gilgamesh

Night of the Living Dead 1968 was probably the biggest turning point in my cinema culture, watched it for the fun of watching a silly old black and white movie and it got my attention from the first second to the very end. Highly recommend watching it, and after that 1978 Dawn of the Dead, old school zombie movies kick ass.

How can you talk about Zombie games without mentioning "No More Room in Hell", the game most similar to Romero's movies? Also there is going to be a second NMRIH this year.

@@ElementalDj Yes, they just added a new video on the official NMRIH youtube channel 2 months ago. It's looking good but it seems that they won't release it this year.

I’m pretty sure both Zombies and Metal Gear will come back, buddy. The only problem with the later is getting the rights away from Konami, once Hideo Kojima wants to make another game.

+Sinon They're saying that the games he pointed out were the best examples he could have used for each of his points. To respond to your original post, I doubt that No More Room In Hell is known nearly as well as the majority of the titles mentioned, hence why it probably wasn't used.

I'd love to see a follow-up/successor to this video about the 'alien space cancer' trope, a la The Flood, Blacklight Virus, The Infestation, etc. I feel like it's fairly closely related to zombies, but I've never quite been able to pin down where it's particular aesthetic of hive minds, huge spore masses growing over everything, and giant glowing orange pustules originated. It feels almost self-perpetuating as a game trope, but I dont remember really seeing it outside of games.
