The female orangutan born on June 19th at ‪@thezoovienna‬ has been named “Kendari”. After internal considerations, they finally decided together on the name of an Indonesian city. Indonesia is the original home of the orangutans, where these special animals have now been almost wiped out due to deforestation and illegal trade. “We are very happy that the young animal is developing so well and that we have found a name. Kendari is getting bigger and stronger every day. She is already raising her head and slowly starting to perceive her surroundings with wide eyes. Everything is always in the protective arms of mother animal Sari”, says animal keeper Sandra Keiblinger.
“Sari takes very good care of her offspring, which is by no means a matter of course for a first-time orangutan mom. The rest of the group is also interested in the young animal. Above all, the orangutan lady Mota, who is already 58 years old, likes to be near Kendari,” says the head of the zoological department, Folko Balfanz. Depending on the weather and the time of day, mother and young alternately spend their day in the outdoor or indoor enclosure. "Like all the animals in the group, they too can freely choose their place in the facility," explains Balfanz. The chances of being able to spot the little Kendari the next time you visit the zoo are high.

Look at the mother's eyes and tell me there is no love when she looks at her baby. There is nothing but love. The way she looks at the baby, holding the baby and feeding her. It's all love.

What a nice enclosure; especially the cooling spray. We are going to need a lot more of these habitats, since these magnificent creatures are not safe in the wild.

A lovely mother and baby. I am impressed with this zoo’s orangutan habitat: lots of climbing opportunities, a high nest and misters which spray water vapour to better mimic rainforest conditions. I hope the orangutans are happy there. I liked that the old orangutan finds comfort in the company of mom and baby.

Indonesia needs to step up and stop the deforestation of their jungles and increase rangers to protect these beautiful creatures. Would love to see the wild population grow, istead of them being reduced to captive animals.

Gorgeous mother and baby. It's interesting to see that in this zoo they allow at least one keeper to have barrier-free contact with an adult orangutan; many zoos don't, even with keepers the animals trust a lot. The risk to keepers' safety is just considered too high because these animals are so strong. In some places it may just be due to workplace health and safety laws, and/or insurers' requirements.

We, as in the international community, need to work together to get and keep them off the endangered species list. They are too much like us to be endangered. Amazing how docile they are going up and down on those ropes.

Yes it was amazing thing to see that it was some zero here in America a couple months ago I believe yeah they showed the little baby girl cuddling I thought his mom at first but no it was the dad who like I said in the previous post I have nothing to do much with their babies out in the wild the males little solitary existence and the mother's raised the babies and once the boys are certain age they take off into their own but here's the zoo is different and this situation the mother had died shortly after birth and the father stepped right in and took over doing everything anything except for milking but he gives that baby is much love as the mom still without a doubt and it just goes to show you that they really are these are persons their personality I consider them people not just animals and most animals have a soul and have something we should respect anyways.

I have seen most types of monkeys and I really watch a lot primary videos I've got a good looking pretty much every type of monkey and baboon and everything there is and you'll see a lot of mothers that are compassionate and loving I'm some species much more so than others. I mean you got some bad boys a certain animals that straight up demonic devilish and evil chimpanzee is the same way some of them some of my wonderful bonobos it might be perverts but at least they're extremely kind and well-behaved and rarely is a violence with them or with these beautiful fellows the orangutans or a very chill who I mean rarely attack or hurt anybody you really got to piss off a big male to the point. I would love to work with these animals here I hate to call my animals I think that these is more people even smaller monkeys if they're intelligent if they have a personality they're like a person to me. And I'll really love monkeys and when it comes to the big Apes these are my absolute favorite and yeah the mothers do hug and kiss the babies very much very kind very sweet and fathers usually don't have anything to do with the mothers right racing video of a father taking care of his baby cuz the baby was born in the zoo and the mother died from them troubles complications from birth so it was just the father and Keepers feeding it and the baby and the father stepped in and holds it and Cuddles it and hugs it and they don't really do all that out in a while just because males live Us com solitary searching existence I don't know why they do that but when there at a zoo they get along as a group really well you know. But they love the babies all primates really that's the main thing is all about the babies. It's like really all they have is that in food I mean they have nothing else to make their existence any bit tolerable with all the itchiness and the fleas and the Heat and 100 degree jungles covered in fur and hair and no they don't get used to it you see them scratch and itching all the time stuff it's a rough existence for primates. A lot of them are smarter than everybody is treating them like just because they don't function as smoothly as us when it comes to doing our things in our world we don't exactly keep up when we try to compete with them doing their things that's for sure. We're much weaker than them it seems like we've been prospered between chimps and some kind of marshmallow like super weak species.
