Don't know if someone mentioned already, but if you are going to share a video, be sure to click the boxes at the bottom of the "screen share" screen. Otherwise, the audio may not be heard by your audience and the video may not be as good as it could be.

Hey Steve, my wife has been using Zoom for the last two weeks with her class at a local Vancouver college (shes the instructor). The challenges she has worked through are: 1) recommend that if you are teaching a larger group you use mute all participants once you get going otherwise everyones background noise overpowers your presentation or speaking. You need to setup some sort of way to have someone unmute. Can be done by teacher through chat or through video if class is small enough by putting hand up in video screen. 2) When sharing video you MUST turn on share sound (two radio buttons on the bottom of the share screen) before you run the video if you want sound. 3) Breakout rooms can be a great way if you have the class working on a group project and you need a 1:1 with a student. 4) Sharing documents is fairly easy, just gets tricky if you are trying to mark assignments or correct. You need common tools, programs or apps and file share via chat or email. File security can kick in and make file sharing tricky at times. 5) Highly recommend asking class to use earphones to lower background noises for students homes (others may be watching TV or doing other household chores or playing nearby) or to even hear your class attendees. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN NUMBER 1, Don’t forget to setup your home work place studio. Consider what your background is showing. Perhaps your dirty dishes, laundry or last nights TWO empty wine bottles ☹️ are not what you want to be projecting .... and also who else in your household might need to share that space, ie if your class is over several hours, perhaps there is somewhere better than dining room table if others need the kitchen and table. Also if you take a break mute your mic so you don’t have a hot mic moment 🙂. Look at all the new skills we are learning out of necessity!

Good points Ken, there is a keyboard shortcut, Everyone can mute thir mic, and when they hit the spacebar they are unmuted. It works like a charm!

Just completed conference with six other non-techie participants. Had some teething problems, but eventually got them resolved. One of the participants inadvertently shared her screen, which caused a lot of confusion. AFAIK, there is no way to disable participants from sharing their screen in the free version. Is that correct? Is the "registration" feature omitted from the free version?

Hi Steve and Shannon. This is the best video on Zoom! I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks with classes and I’m always looking for ways to improve the experience for students (adults who have different levels of computer experience). I got some great tips here, like having students use headphones for noise reduction). And I enjoyed the appearance of your doggie. That was hilarious. At some point during our classes people’s dogs and cats drop in and they make everybody laugh. Thanks so much for your help. You’ve got a new subscriber!

Well the scheduling/joining part worked great (tried out waiting room as that is a good feature. I work with HS students so I can admit at least two students and not have a group zoom meeting with just one. Also, admit all will help them from being too goofy and inappropriate with each other while waiting.) My speakers stopped working even though I've participated in several zoom meetings in the past few days without issue. Back to drawing board as I troubleshoot my own device!

Loved it!!! I teach a foreign language at a local community college..and this past Spring we had to teach via ZOOM. With absolutely no experience in teaching anything online, I was thinking about NOT doing it. But, I mustered up the courage, got the help I needed from the college tech folks and so far have taught 3 courses via ZOOM. Your KZfaq instructions have helped me immensely. I will be utilizing your suggestions in my next class which beings October 3rd. You have cleared up a lot of confusion for me. Again, Thank you. Harriette

I’m seeing a lot of privacy and security concerns with Zoom these days. How concerned should we be and what, if any, precautions can we take as users? I sure appreciate your channel and all the info you’ve made available. Thanks.

Question: I'd like to delete 3 out of 7 in the list of meeting ID's in Join Meeting screen. The only option I see is the clear all and I definitely don't want to do that. How can I do this? I have searched all through Zoom Help but couldn't find an answer.

Thank you very much. Is there a way to connect Google Classroom and Zoom? Do you have a video on how to transfer google slides to zoom screen share? I teach third grade and you video was helpful.
@dottotech

Google classroom integrates with Hangouts. Sharing slides is as easy as opening them on your computer before you start then sharing that screen in the screen sharing option

Is there a way that I can see how long my student will be watching each Zoom post/class? To make sure they are watching the entire post? I'm worried about some logging in, or opening it, but not watching the entire class time.

You bet, I am making a new video that will include this but you can set up Attention tracking Lets the host see an indicator in the participant panel if a meeting/webinar attendee does not have Zoom in focus during screen sharing.

Yes, we are blessed to have this technology and thank you so much for doing such a helpful instructional video on Zoom. One thing, Shannon asked you if the Zoom Chat material could be recorded and sent. I think your answer (which was in the negative) could have mentioned that Chat can be saved. So it could sent afterwards in that way.

If you want to reuse a poll that you have created - you must create it using your personal ID meeting number. This will then mean that the poll will be available within all meetings in which you invite people using your personal ID number. This is not the case for randomly created meeting ID numbers where your poll will not be available. Because of this, I have now decided to create all polls within my personal ID numbered meetings and schedule all meetings where I want access to my polls using my personal ID number. A possible downside to this is that once people have your personal ID number they could join any future meetings where you use it - unless you take other steps to secure it using options like password entry.

@@Socratevz You can schedule a recurring meeting which will not use your Personal Meeting ID. In addition, if a random generated meeting ID still exists in the "Previous Meetings" tab, you can click on the meeting topic, then click "edit" and modify the date to make it active/upcoming again.
