I bought this recorder, which is primarily for podcasts, to record live band rehearsals and gigs.
I was very surprised at the results from this little machine...

Sounds like it worked great for a 4 input recorder. Only wish the inputs on the zoom were combo jacks.

Scratch that, that record of yours sound just AMAZING for being done in such a rudimentary way. Really nice! Is it good for recording drum demos? like 2x OH, snare and bassdrum? It is cheaper than the H4n or the H5, but I need my own overheads. Just wondered about the preamp quality...

Thanks. I have recorded my friends drums with it since, using exactly that. Kick, snare, 2 x condenser overheads. The pre-amps are fine. Nice and quiet, no hiss. The unit has no on board fx though, so you need to take the files off the SD card afterwards and put them into a laptop DAW to EQ, add compression, reverb etc.

Do I have to use amps? I have Shure mics a pair of SM57’s and 58’s and those are the four mics I’m wanting to use with the Zoom P4. I want to put the 57’s on upright piano and 58’s on vocals

Great video ! Sounds awsome, I was looking for a portable solution to recording live music performances, this is right on target, I see that lines and DI inputs work well! Are there any special setings for using this non Mic use ? Thanks

Thanks. No special settings. Just get a decent signal level and hit record. All effects, EQ and mixing are done afterwards on a laptop with music editing software. Good luck.

how do i send vocals from the pa

I just use an XLR splitter cable (very cheap to buy). It has one female and 2 male XLR connectors. Mic into the female, one male to Podtrak and one to PA mixer. Or, take one of the aux sends/monitor sends from the PA to the Podtrak and send it the vocals only. Both ways work fine. Hope this helps.
