You can either choose the convenience of the zoom or the sharpness of the prime. I’ve grown to love prime lenses. Once you get to know how to work around them you will really enjoy using them. Speaking from personal experience only though. For situations like weddings the zoom does come in handy. It all depends on your style and what you like. At the end of the day its better to just try both before settling for one.
@_HMCB_

Very good points. As a relative beginner with only 2-3 years in photography, I jumped right into primes by buying used. The difference between a kit lens at the time with the older Nikon DSLR I had was evident. Personally, I’d suggest a newbie with a limited budget like I had is to start with one or two good primes and learn from there.

On rare occasion, when you need wider than a 35 you can always take multiple photos (keeping the same focus from the main photo) and put it all together in Photoshop. These photos would also be at f1.4 and prime sharp.

Sharing my experience! I love to shoot primes, but there is one very specific zoom lens: sigma 24-35 F2, this is a gem if you know how to use it! It's kinda having 24 and 35 primes lense, the IQ and F2 give you that feeling! But for some reason this lens is not very popular, maybe someone has it and can share his experiences?

Yeah that’s the people who like to follow the ‘rules’ - but yes I would avoid close ups unless I wanted that extreme perspective distortion effect - I’ve seen some photographers use it to their advantage! It’s art so you can do whatever you want

Could see a difference in IQ between the two lenses? It's always a tug of war on which we go. I prefer the rendering and background blur of fast primes, but when out and about zooms are soo useful. For events shooting, I always choose zooms. But for portrait sessions, a great 35 and/or 50mm is plenty.

Had to watch this again as I'm in the market for both a wide prime and a wide angle zoom as well to compliment my existing Sigma ART 24-70mm f/2.8. Thank you for this! I may actually end up buying "both" lenses. The 24mm 1.4 satisfies my need for more light sometimes when shooting dance events with low light situations, and the 16-35mm? Well it's just straight butter! Love the image quality (IQ) of both lenses although they are much different.

If we could don’t use anything wider than 35 except when we need to take a photo of a room during an event, we can just take one main shot and then take a multiple shot while holding the focus hold button to later create one wide angle shot but at a f1.4 instead of a f2.8. I would recommend this technique if you need to do this often given it more work and time equal money but if it’s only a few shots once in a while a think getting a 35 f1.4 is more versatile than a 16-35 f2.8 if you don’t mind moving a lot more and doing a bit more with in post processing on occasion. What do you think of my philosophy?

I am considering to buy GMaster 16 to 35 or should I buy Gmaster 24 F 1.4 I wonder that if I go for like traveling to landscape mountain is 24 going to be wide enough for that stuff. Is 24 F1 .4 Gmaster gonna be good for portrait In case that I want my model pop up in the frame with the beautiful landscape. And I think that maybe 16 to 35 could cover all what I need. But when think about putting people inside of the frame from the Internet from KZfaq that I saw that it’s like the lens cannot separate people from the background well enough. And if I have to invest on neither of these lenses I have to stuck with it for years because you I dont have that much money by the way I already have 50 F1.4 and kitlens 28-70 f3.5-5.6 So if I have to shoes only one which Lens should I get for my traveling and portrait. And what do you think do you think wether 35 portrait on G master 16 to 35 portrait it’s gonna be better than 24 F 1.4 or not ?

I can see that you try to 16-35 footage look worse from 6:46 notice on the head of the model. That triangle all the composition and you capture all worse and careless comparing with 24 gm f1.4 photo

That zoom is fucking trash. The photos were super boring and bland as well. Basically just cellphone quality snaps. The ONLY zoom worth owning is the 70-200. Carlo fucking murdered it.

I wouldn't blame the gear mate, both lenses are more than good enough...would love a trip to Tassie!

@@amitchandra2179 lol, burn. I would have been shooting wide the whole time. You're not gonna get any separation with that lens unless you put a massive amount of space behind the subject. So might as well lean fully into the widest focal

@@cutemup1874 haha sorry lol...it's a great location, you could shoot at f8 and get great pics...it's not really a lens issue but learning know to shoot portraits with a wide angle lens issue imo.
