There were rock n roll bands in India back in the 60s from the Southern part as well but it has always been the North Eastern part of India were country, pop, rock n roll metal was and have always been a daily affair. I have discovered some other good bands from Mizoram and India overall. You can find them on my India playlist if you wish to.
