In this video I go over the pros and cons of the 57L Arc Zip and the 62L Arc Air Zip. I also recommend other backpacks that have great features and are well regarded if one of these two aren't ideal. Cheers!
Disclaimer: I was not sponsored by Zpacks and I purchased these backpacks with my own money.

This is the best video I've found on the Arc Zip. I like your comparison and candor. It's easy to tell that ZPack is not your sponsor and the information has your honest opinion. You are the only person I have heard say that the older frame is cooler than the newer frame. I suppose that the same loads and weight carries the same in both? I use an old Jansport External pack for heavy loads and the reduction in perspiration makes a huge difference. I want to try an external for lighter loads and looking at the design of your Arc Zips. Have a good one!

Glad you liked and found the review helpful. The “trampoline” design is a true, tried and tested design used by various other manufacturers that works very well. And yes, the loads are the same accross all larger volume (40L +) Zpacks packs, which is 40lbs if I recall correctly… Cheers 🍻

I have the HMG Southwest 3400 and am really happy with it. No water in a big thunderstorm on the TRT a month ago. I guess I should see how it holds up in a longer duration rainstorm. Although like you, I keep all the gear I want dry in a waterproof bag. Nice review!

Hi Maryann! Thanks for checking out the vid and glad you liked😃👍 HMG makes some amazing gear, especially their backpacks. I’m actually contemplating picking up their Ultamid 2 (one can never have too many tents you know😬). Cheers!

Hi Alex awesome review on these packs. I have the same osprey pack...the men's. I love it. I know what you mean about the trampoline ventilation being important. I always wondered about these other packs. I love the feel of dyneema. Good point about water resistance. Compression dry bags are awesome. The Nero looks good. So light. I hope you have been well. I'm back on KZfaq... 😄 Happy holidays ❤️

Cheers Nicole! Yup the Nero is my favorite ultralight backpack. More recently I must admit I enjoy the somewhat heavier larger backpacks with a lot more features like a separate sleeping bag zipper, loads of extra pockets, etc. I wish you all the best for 2022! 😃👍

Excellent review! Great to see the Exos there too as I am in between these for dayhiikes (I’m carrying the gear and water for the entire family 😆). The back ventilation is the common feature as it is so different from the UL packs… Maybe the cost is not justified in my case for 1lb…

Very thorough video, thanks a lot for this! I have two questions: 1) Have you experienced any squeeking with the back system poles on the Arc Zip please? 2) Do you think a 15inch laptop would fit the front zip compartment?

Glad it helped Martin! To answer your questions: 1. I haven’t experienced any squeaking at all, but I’ve never carried much weight in the pack (perhaps 10-12kg max). 2. Yes, you can absolutely fit a 15” laptop in the front, 10 liter pocket. That’s what I do actually. I place my 15” MacBook pro there, in a foam sleeve and fits perfectly. Cheers👍

Great review. I just got the zip air and was disappointed with the baked in curved frame. Have you tried to remove them. They seem pretty stuck to me. I want to replace them with straight stays.

Many thanks! No I didn’t try replacing the stays, but sounds like it is worth the try, I ended up returning the Air and just keeping the older one… Cheers

Sorry RH, I accidentally removed your comment! I thought I was pressing reply. Apparently I need reading glasses, lol. I agree, I’m not sure why they didn’t just make this newer robic backpack with the mesh trampoline. I was just at the shop looking at the new Gregory Katmai 65l, and it also has the trampoline. That system works great at keeping your back cool when hiking…

Great review! Been looking at these. Does the dynema make a lot of noise while on the trail? That crinkling sound while moving?
@alexonthemountain8343
@alexonthemountain8343 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Aaron, glad it helped. The only time I can hear it is when I take it on and off or access my water bottle in the side pockets. Once I’m walking and have it strapped and everything is fairly snug I don’t notice any DCF crinkling sounds. Cheers

can you still put longer items in the side pockets on the Arc Air? I notice it doesnt have the cord to hold it in. Plus, can you only close the top on the side or can you close it like the Arc Zip? thanks. great video
@alexonthemountain8343
@alexonthemountain8343 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark, yes you can, as an example; I was able to store my trekking poles in the side pockets using the compression straps to hold them in place. As for your second question, you can only close it in the side. Hope that helps. Cheers 👍

@@alexonthemountain8343 Sorry I mixed up the packs. It's the 62 liter that is missing. No zip version anymore (with Robic fabric) Also I liked the color. can't find it anymore !! ?

@@mumblic Yeah I see they took it down. Looks like they replaced it with a DCF version (and it’s pricey!). You’re right it’s too bad cause the Robic colors are pretty cool…

This pack is a piece of junk. Life lesson. When you are asked to buy a car without test driving there is a reason. Zpack does just that with their packs. We spent $1,000 for two packs that would not carry any weight. To add to the problem every time we called Zpack they came back with a different lie of the weight it will carry. The response was always in ratio to what weight we said we were carrying. When we said we had 25 lbs we were told it would carry 30. When we said 30 in a different call they said 35. This pack would be nothing more than a very expensive day pack. We hiked the whole AT and saw one other Zpack. When we saw that young land again, she had traded hers in for another pack. PLEASE DO NOT BE SUCKED IN BY THE FAKE VIDEOS THAT ZPACK PUTS ON KZfaq. These not unbiased reviews. If you see a video that just praises this bag and sounds like an infomercial, I will guarantee that is exactly what it is.
