Zsolt Erdei - is a Hungarian former professional boxer who competed from 2000 to 2014. He held world championships in two weight classes, including the WBO and lineal Light-Heavyweight titles from 2004 to 2009 (making eleven consecutive defences against ten different opponents), and the WBC Cruiserweight title from 2009 to 2010. Erdei is the first boxer from Hungary to win world titles in two weight divisions. As an amateur, he won a bronze medal in the middleweight division at the 2000 Olympics. He also competed at the 1996 Summer Olympics.

2 weight world champion and an Olympic bronze medalist! Zsolt Erdei was a very well schooled fighter who had excellent fundamentals and reigned as WBO Light-Heavyweight champion for 5 years making 11 consecutive defences. His only loss came at the hands of Denis Grachev but it was a total robbery so he should have retired undefeated. Late in his career he moved up to Cruiserweight and won the WBC crown in an impressive performance against Giacobbe Fragomeni. Hungary gave the world the great Laszlo Papp but Erdei is the nation's best ever pro. That said, the country has only had 3 world champs in the pros. Despite such a strong history in the amateur ring, there are currently no major amateur or pro Hungarian prospects. Why do you think Hungary has not been a hotbed of boxing talent?

@@jdoro63Great question I’m really not sure. As for Papp the government wouldn’t let him fight for a world title as a pro so that really derailed his career, a real shame because he looked great on film.

I remember his run at LHW, most won't know this but Zsolt Erdei was the lineal champion in the weight division, not Roy Jones or Antonio Tarver. The title went Virgil Hill to Darius Michalczewski, then to Julio Ceasr Gonzalez, then to Erdei. Jones held all the belts bar the WBO and the lineal title (and held the WBC, which turned out to be, illegally held, Google that). Erdei had good skills and great timing, he reminds me of a big Orzubek Nazarov.

WBO Intercontinental Light Heavyweight Champion (2002-2003) WBO Welterweight World Champion (2004-2009) WBC Cruiserweight World Champion (2009) The WBO light heavyweight European champion (2014) had his last match in Monaco cheated by the judges, it was a million dollar four-man tournament.

Oooh loved to see this pop up on my feed as a hungarian, been trying to find a good highlight of him for ages. I got to meet him once at an event (gave me the most crushing handshake ever lmao) nowdays he runs his own boxing academy and puts on amateur events regularly.

The great majority of both fans and professionals - even Prince Albert of Monaco himself - were perplexed when they heard the result, when the judges scored 96:94; 94:96; With a score of 94:96, the Russian was declared the winner, thus taking away Madár's rightful victory, thereby breaking his unbeaten streak

It was a poor decision. Erdei should've retired undefeated, not much you can do with incompetent judges.
