The Zulcron XT 435 GT (glass tip) as with the standard carbon version is a very nice rod to cast, and puts a lead a long way with little effort with glass/carbon blended tip for improved bite sensitivity but yet retain good recovery of the blank.
I would have no hesitation in using the GT on the field for competitive casting either it certainly launches the big lead superbly.
It is user friendly (in my opinion) and I am looking forward to using the GT tip on some heavier fishing sessions with the added bonus of extra bite sensitivity, with the backbone to punch baits and leads far if needed, all in a slim and light and responsive blank.

Used to have a slosh and the brake blocks are rubbish..they melt on the rough brake ring..if you polish the brake ring with 600 grit wet and dry and fit it with fibreglass blocks out of an Abu 7000 it'll be sound as 😁 hope this helps.. Lincoln 👍🤙

It would be interesting to known how the rod compares to likes of Zziplex or Century and which rods of these two brands are the closest to the rod you're testing. I was actually looking at Zulcron but for now decided to invest in rebuilding my 25 years old primo ft which can't fail after all these years.

Im really not too sure which rod I would compare it to just now! Primo FT is a good rod well worth rebuilding.

Where do you get that rubber for the spool? I use surgical tubing but it slips sometimes. I like that grip!

Regarding the SLSH30, I had the break block disintegration problems on an Akios 656. I polished the drum, etc. no luck. My theory is that at real power-casting-level RPMs, break blocks just won’t hold up.

There was no problem back in the day with brake blocks thar i remember mid 90s. I think these cheap plastic.blocls no good, too brittle just shatter or metlt. They used to be made of glass fibre years ago.

Many casting records were set using brake blocks and the right oil, as usual some casters did go beyond the then record just playing on a field. Some just using oil. Before your time. Paul Kerry hit 291 yards.....on a non magged reel.....maybe he was just good.

if you have a 7TH all you need is a Penn mag 525 or super mag for the rough

Try putting a drop of oil on the brake drum and rubbing it in with your finger

should of got the X30SHA same reel but has a metal spool much easier to mag.

I got it sorted. Rubbed the brake ring smooth, tiny light rub of oil on it and 1 red bead from a breakaway 175g lead and it casts beautifully now

there bomb proof reels (apart from the brake blocks lol) i have a the smaller slosh20 i run it without braking, 16+ years old still going strong.

@@djrmonix If the weather is bad for fishing or casting, could be a interesting film about why you had to do that? How the density of the material used as a brake block matters, how you don't need to have 2 blocks or even 2 the same size if you use 2. Then put a Daiwa " big red one " back in and go thrash it to see if it survives. The rod......no not that haha...I prefer carbon tips for casting and fishing. It's totally up to the individual and nothing wrong with either. Good luck with the fishing.

Im am now using 1 bead thing from a brekaway 175g lead as a brake block and have polished up the brake drum to remove corrosion and lightly oiled it. Went down this morning hammer 6 casts 175g on m427su and it seemed to be ok. Cheers

Mag the SL30. Much nicer. Blakdog make a nice kit with an accurately machined aluminium plate you glue to the left side of the spool.

I see that but i want to keep the clicker. I have rubbed the brake drum with wire wool to remove some corrosion hopefully this will have fixed it.

@@djrmonix Hope it works. I suspect the blocks are being pushed past what they are capable of by your casting. Perhaps try some ABU fibre blocks? You could static mag on the right-hand side so as to keep the clicker for fishing. The same aluminium plate but on the right side of the spool with a couple of magnets. I do this here for guys not satisfied with the centrifugal system. Ill send a pic in FB messenger.

Theyre the same blocks that i used in a 7ht turbo so should be fine.
