As a black K-pop stan, I'm so tired of the "Niga" joke. It's overused and not that funny. I know it's a joke but I've seen too many people try to make the word into something it's not. Just try to enjoy the video, without having to make the word higher than it seems. It's mean "you" or "I" in Korean. Point blank and simple. Overall nice video! Glad you guys reacted to it, PSY has always been such a huge inspo of kpop. And he's a legend ❤️

I think they genuinely think it was that word. Lots of us are new to this.
@HeatherQuinn2 жыл бұрын
Right, and it's spelled naega, and used informally to refer to oneself. Like saying me. The translations are not showing the right word order. In the past BTS has changed their lyrics to avoid using naega and its variations even though it's a normal part of the Korean language. I mean imagine song lyrics without the words I or me. LOL. But that's what BTS sometimes did to protect the feelings of Americans who might misinterpret what they heard. Looks like Min Yoongi - Suga - is done with that. Lyrics are a form of poetry, after all. You wanna be true to your poem.
@noxfior2 жыл бұрын
@@HailToTheMeep I think it's also an issue of anglocentrism that should be addressed. Usually, when ppl from other countries listen to songs that aren't in their language, they don't assume that words that sound similar in their own language are actually those words. They go and look it up. Meanwhile, ppl from America tend to jump straight to assuming it's in English, which is meh on most days, but can cause issues when you deal with slurs. BTS had to censor their own language in Fake Love at the BBMAs just to avoid Americans misunderstanding and jumping to conclusions.

Niga - An informal way of saying “you~ (did, said, ate, etc)” usually used between very close friends or siblings and it has kind of nuance of complaining or fighting. NOT a complete sentence and to make it complete you will need to put a past particle or past tense of some sort that you are referring to behind niga. Nurga(Neoga) is much more smoother than Niga. Usually used when you are talking to younger ones to referring you for something that he/she did or said, etc Nega - I, me. Similar to above and it is used if you are older one to younger one. (e.g. I ate it, I did it, I had it, etc).

Secondly I love how he worked along with yoongi and got him not only produce but also to be in the MV but to also dance aswell. Yoongi id my all time fav rapper in the entire music industry and someone I can truly relate too. Thirdly I am in love with the cowboy concept and vibe of the MV and I have always loved the wild west vibe. The whole choreo is just like Psy (if you seen his earlier qork you will k ow what I mean) the beat is upbeat and just makes me want to get up and dance along and another thing "that that" chorus is just so catchy as it has been stuck In my head since I first heard it in the teasers. The funny IRONY about "naega" & the modern slang "n" word is that the Korean word "naega" is thousandS of years older than the "n" word. The "n" word itself is really just a modern slang that originated from a word in Spanish/Portuguese & the older Latin languages. What I'm saying is that it should be the other way around, i.e. that Koreans might think you are saying "naega" when you say the "n" word. It's all about context now with similar-sounding words from 2 different languages. However, seeing that BTS & Suga originally are hip-hop, which hiphop itself is rooted in African-American culture/music, thanks to Seo Taiji, then perhaps it is appropriate that he say that word, because now it's a "double entendre" & it's fun to see him & BTS say that word. Anyway, other than that, it is great to see PSY "coming back", however I don't think this will get as huge as Gangnam Style, simply because the world today is now much more used to, & more saturated with KPop, compared to what less people globally knew of KPop back in 2012. And yeah, I'm sure this song debuted this year simply because it is the 10th anniversary of when PSY made it big a decade ago. Had Gangnam Style not become hugely viral back then, PSY would be much much less known & famous today & that domino effect could have affected the timeline & KPop may not be as huge as it is today, including no BTS either. It's one possible Butterfly Effect.
@ItsZulez2 жыл бұрын
Now that’s what really funny because I even said when the stream was over that technically the N word is a slang or more modern day while naega is a language context word

Nah I don't think so. Gangnam style was more of a meme song most didn't even know that it's a kpop song so I don't think it would've affected kpop anyways. @@angelyuqi6709 well said..I was just going to say this..plus gangnum style was a one hit wonder and literally made kpop music a joke ..made hard for other kpop artists... people started thinking that all korean music must sound like this..very weird..and yes bts debuted in 2013 and slowly slowly started rising up..."the most beautiful life goes on: a story of bts" is a must watch to know some stuff which people didn't know before!

Psy's music videos are always entertaining. The mixture of cinematography, with choreo, humor, story-telling is great! If I"m not mistaken, the choreo was done by BBTrippin' who are Ateez's choreographers/ backup dancers. I"m glad that they were able to come up with something that suits Psy and his style of music yet giving it a more modern feel so he wouldn't be outdated in the choreo.

3:13 First of all, it was generous of y'all to give Suga a "pass" in saying what you thought he said. But he didn't say the n-word lol. The more Korean content you consume, the more you'll realize how common that phrase (or a similar phrase) is, whether it's in K-dramas, Korean cinema, or K-Pop. And it's particularly salient in K-Pop during rap verses because of its hip hop roots. A lot of Westerners assume that rappers from "another culture" are obliviously using a term they think is used in hard rap. BUT... In Korean, NEH GAH means "I" and NEE GAH means "you." A great example of this that will demonstrate how innocuous the term actually is can be seen in the gospel ballad "Everyone" performed by the Korean diva Sohyang. And this is actually another reaction-worthy performance by one of the most talented singers in the world today. If you watch it, you'll PROMINENTLY hear the same phrase outside of a rap verse context and you'll get it. Oh, and this was a fun reaction, btw.

Sorry, but when it comes to the word Naega, it is not to be joked about because the backlash comes to BTS as a group. Army express harshly that he (Suga) is not saying the N-word because when RM did it like 7-8 years ago by just signing an American song with the N-word in it (they don't have that word in Korea and many don't know the meaning and the negativity of the word) he got dragged and had to spend a lot of time apologizing for that mistake. They even make sure to substitute that word when singing in America so as to not cause hatred towards them. I understand it may be funny on your end but for BTS it is important that people understand the meaning of the word without them altering their native language all the time. So when Army expresses their thoughts about this please understand why it is done.
