Thanks so much for your videos, as they have been extremely helpful. For those of us South Africans who were born and raised in exile during the Apartheid era, most of us have a hard time learning our native language. Growing up in the 70's & 80's, my parents spoke Zulu to each other, but spoke English with us and the environment in Chicago wasn't conducive to us learning or speaking Zulu with anyone outside the home. Its one of my many regrets that i didn't make an effort to learn the language as a youth cause now as an adult, it sometimes makes it hard to communicate with relatives when i go back to South Africa. Though they all can speak English, the fact that i'm not fluent in Zulu sometimes leaves me out of so many things. It gets tiresome having to ask my cousins to translate for me every time we're at a wedding or a funeral, or any large gathering. Hopefully in time, with your help, i'll overcome this obstacle and be able to speak, and write in Zulu with no problem.

Maphitha! Jobe kaMatshana! I'm so glad that you are finding the lessons helpful. There are some live group lessons. One group just started last month. So they haven't gone THAT far. The other group started last Saturday. They will be meeting on Saturdays at 12 EST. Also, it would be so nice if you can form a group with people who are also learning like you, who are in the US. There are some in the MidWest states in both groups. Important is to give yourself grace. You will learn in due time. I'm glad that you have cousins you can rely on for translations. That helps a lot. Watch some TV shows here on KZfaq and Netflix. They have subtitles. Read the newspapers (Ilanga and Isolezwe), they are helpful. Read children's stories, those are so so so great! You'll get there. Keep working on it. Ngiyabonga Maphitha!

I don't if its only me but i understood zulu quickly when someone was speaking because some of the words are close to my native language shona, my problem is in responding and engaging in a conversation, thank you for your videos you really break them down so that they become easier to digest
@ZuluLessonswithThando
@ZuluLessonswithThando Жыл бұрын
Oh I'm so happy to hear that Munyaradzi. Mazvita. Yes, when someone speaks Shona slowly, I can understand too. We do have an adult class that is supposed to start soon. But I think it might be too easy for you because you would know all the greetings and stuff like that already. SO I would say, meet someone and ask them to meet you maybe once per week, in person or via whatsapp video call. You can then chat in isiZulu. About any topic. Then you can work on responding in isiZulu as much as you can.

@voodoochild6904
@voodoochild6904 Жыл бұрын
Elentulo is taken from isizulu proverb...which is ngibambe elentulo (i took the word of lizard, which is the one that came first) legend has it that God sent a tortoise to tell people that they were not going to die... But the tortoise was slow and God got angry and told the lizard to now tell the people that they were going to parish:the lizard rushed passed the tortoise and told the people that they were going to die. After some time the tortoise came to deliver the message that they were not going to die, people got angry they chased it away and told it that 'we took the word of lizard' which is the first one. Sibambe elentulo.

Thank you very much, very informative lesson. I have a question: You said 'Bayapheka' is 'They are cooking'. So I thought 'They are cooking supper' would become 'Bapheka isupper'. But in the video you said it becomes 'Bona bapheka isupper'. May you please explain the difference between a sentence with 'Bona' and one without🙏🏽🙏🏽

Ba- is a pronoun. that we use for They. This is the one we can attach to a verb, an adjective, etc. Bona is an absolute pronoun. Check the video on those. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mcWPmbmWrtmvZqM.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qLR8mNyB35--dKc.html
