Welcome back to Casually Competitive MTG! We are a group of friends who enjoy playing fast-paced, semi-competitive EDH / cEDH games. In today’s game we have some Magic: The Gathering Commander gameplay with a matchup between Abzan Stax (Tymna the Weaver / Kodama of the East Tree), Yannett Cryptic Sovereign, Consult Zur (Zur the Enchanter), and Lonis Cryptozoologist. I will say one of the quality of life things the gameplay videos here did was the stack as a chalkboard. Its probably tough to edit that consistently but I do miss it from the old show.

These first 3 gameplay videos were edited all at the same time, but for the next video we edit we are going to address all feedback people have about the design so hopefully the next revision is a bit better

Glad you’re back, I do think your old way of showing opening hands was way better than the half card on screen thing. Not everyone can identify cards by the top half of a picture. All in all welcome back, can’t wait for more content

Yeah we're going to re-address how we do opening hands for future videos, this one and the next one are just already finished so the best we could do was make it a bit more clear (compared to the last video) was to show a bit more of the art

@@CasuallyCompetitiveMTG I actually like how you have hands. I will caveat I’m a pretty entrenched cedh player. So maybe more of your fans would benefit from some other way of displaying them? Regardless keep showing hands definitely sets you apart from pwp and play to win. Also I appreciate you guys are playing in person. Webcam no matter how good can never be as good as in person

I love Casually Competitive as it's the exact content I like. It's the same feeling as the Playing with Power "Best commanders from x set." Just the idea of taking an idea and making it as powerful as possible is how I like to build

hot take thassa's/consulate is a fine wincon and anyone complaining needs to understand thats its CEDH gameplay and if they don’t like it go watch other casual gameplay that lasts hours on end

Just putting out there because generally only the most passionate people in the subject comment, thoracle consult lines are fine with me. It's the most efficient win con in the format. It'd be boring if it's all y'all did, but there's plenty of game before it happens and it wouldn't feel like cEDH if you ignored it completely.

Our general plan is to try to plan pods around consult decks so it doesn't get too repetitive. For example, the next 4 pods after this one don't have any consult decks, but after those we might do a pod with multiple. That way we can play the consult decks we want without it appearing too frequently

I love the visualization of the stack, however it might be a bit small? I haven’t decided yet part of me likes it smaller part of me wishes it was the same as the central card rect

The idea behind it was that the card would have been shown larger at one point, it wasn't entirely necessary to fully show it again, but after the next video (since the next video was also edited at the same time) we are going to go through all the feedback and hopefully come up with a solution that everyone enjoys and can easily understand

I really liked the old version of openers with larger hands, showing what was put back with mulligans and even the power level and average mana costs.

It doesn’t really make a difference, but on turn 1 Bill should’ve gone to 35 right? Fetch, shock, probe would be 1+2+2 or can you have a shock land come in without the damage when you fetch it? Apologies, I haven’t played EDH in 3 or 4 years now

I wouldn't say they hate on us specifically, it's mainly people just find a Thoracle ending anticlimactic and boring which is fair

Im never mad at content creators for Consult. But I want it banned. Could you guys soft ban it for your pods for content creation?

Our current methodology for it is we will stack consult decks together and space those consult filled pods out. So for example, of our first 5 pods (tribal included), only this pod has consult lines. Stacking the consult decks together still lets us play the consult decks we want, but hopefully they will be sparse enough to not be repetitive

It's cEDH, naturally people play the most mana efficient wincons. Commander is doing just fine, sit down with some friends and play some casual games it will refresh your perspective
