Agreed. It also represents a big part of why fans of the OG Ghostbusters hated the 2016 version so much. In 2016, they ALL were trying to be the "Bill Murray" (i.e. the "funny one") of the group. They failed to realize that the "straight man" plays a VITAL role in a comedy team as well. They do that by making everything else seem funnier by comparison. Further, the deadpan delivery of THIS line, makes it stand out even more! Not just as one of Egon's best lines, but as one of the top lines of the entire film!

I saw this movie in the theatre in 1984 when I was 14. Absolutely loved it and put together my own "Ghostbuster" uniform with a tan sweat top and tan drawstring pants. My Proton pack was a cardboard box painted black, with a cut down garden hose and a wood stick for the wand. 33 years later I finally put together an accurate suit. :) Louis knows "Barbarella" only because she's one of his tax clients. All the people at his party were clients instead of friends. Louis becomes the Keymaster... The same guy who keeps locking himself out of his apartment! LOL And the "Green Ghost" (who gets named "Slimer" in the cartoon series) was the ghost of the late John Belushi as an in-joke among the cast and crew.

I love this movie for it's dry humor, but I have seen it so many times -- a dozen on theatrical re-releases and another dozen or two on video over the years -- that I know all the lines by heart and while I love them, they don't get more than a chuckle at this point. The one thing that still gets me to laugh out loud every time is the sight gag/physical humor of the lady who steps into the hallway after Luis and jumps back in her apartment. I can't explain it, but it gets me every time.

Yeah. Basically it's believed that a ghost being in any area would cause atmospheric changes that could be detected by certain kinds of equipment. That dream scene where a gorgeous apparition reached Ray during he sleeps on the bed. That was originally from a deleted scene where Ray and Winston investigate the haunted mansion. The director wanted to scrap it off, but the crews want to see it in final outcome. Thus, it was edited as part of the montage. PS: I always thought the ghost tried to scare him away by doing invisible tricks, I only found the 'truth' behind the scene is when I was in highschool time.

Ernie Hudson's character was so important to this film, he's the eyes and thoughts of the audience regarding all the craziness.

20:30 This dialog suggests that the whole manifestation of Zuul and Gozer is a game played by supernatural beings and we (humans) just happen to be ants in their playground. "...they chose a new form for him, that of a giant Sloar! Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was like to be roasted in the depths of a Sloar that day, I can tell you!" Not that they were roasted in the depths of a Sloar but that they knew what it was like to be roasted in the depths of a Sloar. Like how someone playing a video game where their character burst afire wouldn't experience burning to death but would know what it was like.

A note on ghost classification. The green ghost(Slimer) is known as a Class V full roaming vapor. Not overly powerful but still a pain in the ass. Slightly more powerful is the Library Ghost (Aka the Grey Lady, or Eleanor Twitty), she's a Class IV Semi-Anchored Entity(you see she has 2 forms, both slightly human in shape). A Sloar on the other hand is a Class VII Ectoplasmic Outsider(classed as a Deity like Gozer). The ranking of each is explored in subsequent materials like the 7 season animated series The Real Ghostbusters, it's 1 season spinoff Extreme Ghostbusters and the 2009 videogame which had creative input from Dan and Harold. At one point in the game you actually have to fight each(I won't explain why......the game does that). Btw speaking of damage claims, you can get 2 different trophies/achievements in the game depending on if you get under $100 thousand in damages(Nice Shootin Tex) or $4 million in damages (The Destructor)

The part of Winston was written for Eddie Murphy but he was doing Beverly Hills Cop so he passed. Dr. Peter Venkman was written for John Belushi. When he died the part was offered to Bill Murray. Egon was played by Harold Ramis writer director and long time collaborator of Bill Murray.

29:48 Someone pointed out that the marshmallows must have been ectoplasmicly saturated otherwise the burns they would receive upon making contact with the skin would’ve been excruciating. Originally, it was to be 100 lbs. of shaving cream that was to be dropped on to William Atherton. But Atherton wasn’t sure if that was safe, so he suggested that they test it out on a stunt man first. The crew thought he was a pussy and begrudgingly brought in the stunt man and when they dropped 100 lbs. of shaving cream on the stunt man, he was knocked off his feet and was flat on his back. Atherton proved his point and eventually they dropped about half of what they were gonna drop and Atherton was able to stay on his feet. Still I would’ve loved to have seen the Jackass guys do a variation on this stunt. Maybe drop 50 gallons of mustard on Rake Yon. He’d probably murder everyone if that happened.
