I've been interested in this pedal since before becoming a reverb nerd. This is the best demo out there. Most videos I've seen for ILFJ were done by folks who seemed to think it was neat but could seemingly not hear a context for it in their own playing. For what you do, Andy, I put you up there with PGS Andy, Burgs, Gearmanndude and Pete Thorn. Thanks!

Great explanation and demo of the ZVEX Lo-Fi Junky! Recently saw Dylan LeBlanc and noticed the ZVEX pedal on his board and wasn't familiar with it. The sound was cool, especially since he was just doing a two man show with his dad on bass and his guitar really filled up the room. Now I know how! Thanks!

Delays and reverbs are great, but I love pedals like this that, as Andy said, "mess with your sound". Some other pedals to consider are Boss's PS-3 Pitch Shifter/Delay and RV-3 Delay/Reverb. Also the Red Panda Particle delay. Each of these offer some really messed up, but controllable sounds.

This lo-fl tape wow and flutter effect can be simulated without an FX pedal. For demoing purposes I have a Fender Champion 20: a great little cheap amp. I realized, quite by happy accident, that the BoC sound can be achieved on the amp along with a delay unit. Set the amp to a very, very slow vibrato, crank the FX level, turn the treble way down and the bass up, and combine this with a delay unit that does reverse delay (although you could mess around with tape echo or other settings, or even ditch it). If you run a guitar through it, tweaking the pickup and tone qualities to further compress the signal, you've got your 'Campfire Headphase' guitar sound. Point being that as good a pedal as the Instant Lo-Fi Junky is, if you've got vibrato and a good delay pedal, and even some reverb, you can make this sound. With that in mind, after demoing the pedal, I just couldn't justify the purchase.

subbed. great explanation and demo! i've been a rack user for many years, but i'm getting back into pedals and looking for ones that do something different. just got myself a CBA Blooper, looking at the Mood and the Zvex stuff has always impressed me (used to have a box of rock and a fuzz factory years ago and loved both). i think a fuzz factory and this lo-fi are right on my radar right now.

I really love the sound you can achieve when you put it after the reverb, I was thinking of buying one to do the same, but the junky isn't stereo right? so for a stereo reverb lover like me it would just be one channel processed right?... And yes all the people commenting are right..it does sound like stuff as "ready lets go" by boc. good video and playing. its a cool device but a lot of people just dont have imagination to play it well like you do even with just a couple chords

Hey Andy, just wondering can you get that same modulated sound on the big sky that you did on the flint? I have a lo fi junky and very interested in the big sky with the lo fi junky placed after instead of before the reverb.

A lot of the demos available seem to reveal a lot of noise from this pedal, especially on the Comp side of the mix. Is the noise only/mostly noticeable on the comp side or is it everywhere? I ask cause I would pretty much exclusively use the lo-fi side if I owned one but i’m hesitant if that’s noisy too.

Andy I really like your demos, they're really helpful. I'm thinking of buying this particular zvex but I haven't found a demo that shows what this sounds like with humbuckers instead of singlecoils, any help? I play mostly a thinline 72 custom tele, and I'm afraid the signal might be too dark to brighten up with the tone knob (when the comp/lo-fi knob is fully clockwise) have you tried it with your gibson or tele deluxe? thanks
@elmaildecamiloruiz10 жыл бұрын
Edwin Burnett It got here yesterday. Tried it and it sounds great, a bit turning of the knobs and this little pedal has a lot to offer. Loving the chorusy thing, with the comp/lo-fi knob set at 11 o'clock it sounds a bit like michael jackson's off the wall guitar tracks. real versatile machine

What are the pedals you simply can't live without?
@JacobAnsteyVEVO9 жыл бұрын
Hey Andy! I just got this pedal after much consideration, and I absolutely love the vibe it adds to my drones and ambient music. But I am consurned with the very audible hiss and crackle the pedal creates when turned on, and it is really interfering with my playing. It tends to lessen when I dial back the tone on the pedal, though. Is there any way to reduce or eliminate the hiss and fuzz of the pedal? Thanks.
