Zwift officially launch their Scotland World today inspired by the city of Glasgow and designed specifically for the UCI Cycling Esports World Championships (Feb 18th 2023). According to ChatGPT - "The Scotland map on Zwift is a virtual representation of the Scottish Highlands, featuring rolling hills, lochs and scenic vistas." That seems like a solid description of what you'll see in this video as I cover all the details, the five routes, and take you through a 15km ride across the countryside our new friend ChatGPT told us about. 🚲🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👌🏼🤣

The colluseum like structure will be McCaig's Folly in Oban. The viaduct (with the train) will be based on the Glenfinnan Viaduct (used in harry potter). There are hex stones early on which will be Fingals Cave on Staffa.

So cool! Thanks for sharing this, I recognise so many Glasgow things... that sprint towards the end is Glasgow City Chambers, and many of the buildings are infact real. The start of the city has the Central Station, which again is a really decent render of it. Those "People Make Glasgow" pink signs will become very familiar to those watching the UCI championships, as this is one of the city marketing strategies. Some of the shop names are pretty funny ("Dreich" meaning wet weather) and the Hub Cafe looks a little like one called "University cafe" which the real UCI route goes near (in the West End). I think the blue shiny lights might be to represent Selkies (mythical Scottish beasts)? There are also a few murals, including one of Nessie; Glasgow has a lot of these which started around the time of the Commonwealth Games in 2014. In the country sections you have the Glenfinnan Viaduct with the Jacobean train (reference to Harry Potter, perhaps, as this was filmed there) and also McKaigs folly in Oban (which looks like the Coliseum). The hexagonal rocks might be a reference to basalt rocks, seen in Edinburgh and on Staffa island. I adore the random heilancoos (highland cows) and the little cottages (these can be seen in the Western Isles of Scotland). Oh my, an architectural tour in Zwift, what fun!

As I work in Glasgow, it looks brilliant. George Square, the Clyde river (part) with bridges, City Chambers and a good few kickers. Not Montrose St at 13% where I work, mind you, but really looking forward to riding it on TdZ stage 8. Welcome to all! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Zwiftook like they've done a great job with this new world. Being Scottish, I recognise quite a few locations and Easter Eggs on the map. Glenfinnan Viaduct, with the Jacobean Steam Train, (aka Hogwarts Express), although i think the locomotive may be the Flying Scotsman, (a wee nod to Graham Obree, as that was his nickname). Also Central Station, George Square, and the Municipal Buildings, Duke of Wellington Statue, with obligatory Traffic cone on the head. A couple of Museums and churches. The Collouseum is the McCaigs Tower in Oban.

Tessellated Pavement or Hexagonal basalt columns - formed from volcanos. Next time you are coming into/going out of Melbourne on the Calder Highway stop at Organ Pipes National Park to see similar rock formations. I am guessing they are referencing the Isle of Staffa hexangonal formations in Scotland

Och, need to get back on Zwift, I want that tartan. In real life, the TT courses for Stirling look interesting, if mostly flat (odd for Scotland) shame one not in here. I'm looking forward to jumping back in Zwift and doing my home country. Nice wee Easter eggs in there, but like how they have the lochs and sea at different levels, the Scotch mist, the Heilanman's Umbrella (Central Station) ,even see the Pap of Glencoe and others ;). Do like how the devs have also pulled through a few Scottish names and terms .... can't wait for the English speakers to tackle this.. and nice too that it is Glasgow, not Edinburgh.

Fingal Cave is the logical continuation of the Giants Causeway and they are caused by the cooling of basaltic lava. There are many examples of this type of jointing in Australia.

road cycling in Scotland is what most call, gravel riding. A Scotsman John McAdam who invented tarmac made it in a way where the stones didn't stick very well to the road, this was later improved by an ironworks crew and was seen by Edgar Hooley who patented the concept of heating tar and infusing it with slag, we like slags in Scotland, but we obviously decided to stick with the original recipe.
